What educational technology did you use in school?

We had access to the computer lab computers. I believe we started going to “specials” and computer became one of them when I was in about 4th or 5th grade. I remember always being super excited for that special. I was able to play games so really it was cool to me being young.

Do you remember being excited for any new educational tool?

Not at all, once I was older. I think I got used to it being there. It wasn’t like we were able to all carry our own personal laptops. We just knew we had them big box computers available to us in the library and other things like that.

How did tools enhance your learning?

I wouldn’t say anything really enhanced my learning. I don’t really thinking that something was the reason I was passing or anything like that.

What educational technology did you use in school?

I think all of elementary we had access to computers. We were able to play educational games on there. Most kids were playing cool math games growing up. Then it turned into my whole in person Sophomore class our teacher had us on Khan Academy and that is how we got our grades. He hardly cared.

Do you remember being excited for any new educational tool?

I think once eighth grade hit I was excited. We were able to get our own personal Chromebooks that we could take home. I think that was exciting and new for me to experience.

How did tools enhance your learning?

Enhance? I am not quite sure. I feel like if anything, it helped many kids cheat on assignments. The internet always has what you are looking for. Test question answers, etc.

What educational technology did you use in school?

We had computers growing up we used. Our technology teachers would push the typing game on us. We had to type a certain amount of words in a certain amount of time before the end of the year. I would say that was educational, as well as like Canvas being created. Learning how to work that was very interesting and new for all of us.

Do you remember being excited for any new educational tool?

Not really, I think when I got the laptop I was already familiar with it.

Fernando, the part of your timeline that intrigued me the most is when your boyfriend born in 2001 pointed out that easy access to the internet has made our generation more prone to cheating and instant gratification answers. I've even experienced this myself, wanting to power through assignments as fast as possible with the correct answers regardless of if I genuinely understood the material or not. I found your three interviews extremely insightful and interesting, and maybe including the dates of some technological inventions would have enhanced your timeline. - Anna Maurizo
