Pinehurst is an old town, but it is still a quaint little town. No matter the weather, it’s always a “beautiful day in Pinehurst.” The golf courses surround you wherever you go with pristine fairways and greens. The memory of those that came before, like Donald Ross, Payne Stewart, and so many more, are all around. When the wind blows, the pine trees bend and sway. In spring, the azaleas are a majestic and colorful site. Things move slowly, but the people are happy. At Camelot Park, children are always playing, swinging, running. Downtown is simple yet awe-inspiring. The clubhouse and hotel are always bustling. There is a kindness to the town and the people that you don’t find many places. When the Open returns, the town will be thronged with excitement and love for this precious place amidst the Pines.

China Grove is a small farming community located in the southwest corner of Rowan county. There are not many recreational activities, so many people attend sporting events at local schools or enjoy the YMCA. The community restaurants consist of barbecue, home styled cooking, and pizza parlors. There are also copious amounts of old buildings in the same area where you can find unique items or fresh grown produce. This town is growing as a community like crops grow yearly as the sun stand high in the sky and the rain runs through weekly. Everyone enjoys Farmers day as it is treated like a holiday for everyone, people gather and lend a hand to one another. Therefore my hometown is a wonderful place to be and I wouldn’t trade it for any other place.

Concord is a small quickly growing town in North Carolina. The weather is perfect here, winter doesn’t make your toes freeze off, and the summer doesn’t make you want to go stand in the freezer. No matter the season you can always find something fun to do. From spending tons of money in downtown, at the mall, or enjoying ice cream that is as colorful as the rainbow at the Cabarrus Creamery. The Great Wolf Lodge offers the best of both worlds with a whirlwind of fun in the inside waterpark, and the comfy nature inspired rooms, so even the people who live in the community have to come stay a night or two. Everything is quickly changing to enhance the experience everywhere you go, it seems like every day poof another road has appeared. Just around every corner there’s another huge neighborhood crammed full of houses juxtaposed together, so everyone knows to leave extra earlier because your almost always stuck in dreadful traffic. Concord is a small developing hometown that is like a caterpillar quickly coming out of its cocoon.

China grove is a small town sitting right of the edge of good ol’ Rowan County, NC. Every building you walk past are practically war vets, though they still stand strong and proud. Plenty of small businesses fill the old buildings you see walking down the sidewalk. Businesses ranging from a sporting goods store to an antique store. During the day you see the average joe strolling the sidewalks, while at night all you see are the elderly. The elderly come out at night, like a group of bats, to eat at the small, yet bustling restaurants here in China Grove. They all love their country – style foods around these parts.

No one who passes through China Grove pays attention to it. They act like it is a ghost town, something you should not really pay attention to. You see semi -trucks, cars with a plate from a different state, or the occasional fancy sports car. But they won’t remember this place as well as others. This is a place where they can get a bite to eat, refuel on gas, and enjoy the comfort of driving through a country town like China Grove, until they leave to go wherever they’re going. Then the memory is effaced from their mind by their lack of will to remember the cozy town. Though, for the people that live here, it is one of the most loving towns they have ever been in. Everyone is nice to each other and you just feel at home.

It’s got a feel to it that just makes you feel safe and secure. You are protected from any other problems that may be going on in the world around you. China Grove, which is right beside it is the same way, almost as if they were one big family. This peaceful town finds a way to keep happiness in all of its people.

Landis is a small town with a rail road going though it, every day you could hear the whistle of a train at least three times a day, I now hate the sound of that whistle. When you drive into Landis you could see the age in it, to the old little sign to the old Linn Brothers Busy Store. When you look at the little old town you don't think it is a place where you could go swimming at twelve in the afternoon then go shopping by three in the little thrift shop that was there. Landis is full of life on somedays and on others its as quite as a mouse. I don't think I can delineate the town very well but I know it was small and quite until they started engendering a second rail road tracks. In my opinion the second track is ruining the town and the others it goes though. I would love to efface the second track and make it how it used to be but I know that I can’t do that because I don't have the forces. One day our little old town will probably fall apart or get changed to somethings else. But until that day comes it will still be the little old small town that nothing ever happened in.

Landis, cold during the winter, hot during the summer, Landis is like every other town. We have a post office, police station, fire station, and other things in every other town. Where I live is boring, every house is juxtaposed perfectly next to each other. Every house the same as the next, white exterior walls, black roof, windows, and a family inside. Each house has its own tree, either oak or maple. The eerie sound of construction sickens this neighborhood, clanging steel and power tools increasing in sound as the come closer towards our sanctuary. The laughter of the machines creep closer and closer each day, ruining the peace within the hold. Silence, its stopped. The wretchedness of the construction has come to an end. The neighborhood is rejoiced with the silence of the laughter. More people have joined the neighborhood after the time of terror, although the noises are gone the neighborhood is back to its old self. No noise, vibrance or excitement just a quiet boring neighborhood.

BEEP! BEEP! On the mornings of the long summer days you wake up to the sound of joy from a family member ready for the day to soon begin. The fun of the parties that are thrown and the time to spend with friends really brings your life together. People run down the long, benevolent streets to see other trying to enhance there everyday lives. While others go to work at farms and local markets for a daily living. We have two copious schools full of kids who are ready to learn and others who are histrionic. These schools love the feeling of a competition between one another which really can bring out feelings of the great city of China Grove. The great looks on kids faces when they realize what a fun place to be. Everyone here mainly knows one another almost as if we are all a family. Then you realize it’s your last day of summer and school will soon begin you notice how fun and idyllic China Grove can be. You go to bed to the crickets chirping and the birds singing and get ready for the next day to soon begin in China Grove.

You see buses on the street from 6:30 in the morning when some schools stars to 4:30 in the after noon when students are getting dropped off at their house. The schools have after school activities for example I have to stay after school for either soccer practice or soccer games. The soccer field is like a second home to me. In my town they are two schools that have a big rivalry and the they are South Rowan (My school) and Carson. The best place to walk with your family is downtown. We have lots of amazing stores in downtown. Stores from sporting goods to even groceries. There also restaurants that serve amazing food. It’s always beautiful and the people are always willing to lend a hand. Children crowd the streets, like a busy day in Central park, everyone plays kickball in the cul-de-sac; most games usually end in an argument. Humming birds fly between trees stealing all the food from nearby bird feeders that the neighbors set out, along with the thousands of chimes; on a windy day, they sound relaxing like a day at the local pool. Every day around 2:30 you can hear the sound of the ice cream truck as all the kids, filled with hysteria, run out to the end of their driveways holding the loose change they found in between their couch cushions. The air is peaceful with a gentle breeze that makes this town just as serene as it sounds, with its happy neighbors and its beautiful skies, I couldn’t imagine anywhere more perfect.

China Grove is a very simple and happy town where everyone knows everyone. Walking down Main Street people call your name and wave. The town slowly comes to life around lunch time when everyone gets off work and heads down the street to Gary’s restaurant. Walking into Goodman’s farm supplies you will always get a big smile from “uncle Walter” or Alan. The memories of the old times seem to be written on the walls. The amazingly incandescent summer days hold one of the most important events to this town, Farmers day where all the old men go out to the town standing around talking about tractors and “the good ole days”. As the weather goes from 99 degrees to 32 the Christmas parade becomes the talk of the town. The kids sit outside so cold they believe their fingers might fall off waiting for Santa Clause to ride through at the end of the parade. After the parade and the lights come down the town turns back into its simple self.

Mooresville, a colorful town in southern Iredell county, at night the clean clear sky show stars as bright as diamonds. Once you live their you never want to move anywhere else, especially during the winter where the snow covers the land, and it’s as white as a pillow. Sometimes you feel the need for a hiatus when you live there and see it every day. I lived in the countryside of Mooresville, so there wasn’t much to see but grass fields and farm land. Though there wasn’t much to see it was quite peaceful, except for the summer nights when you heard the dragstrip going on all night long.

Anyone could scrutinize and it would take less then an hour. But in this town that is good thing, if you in hards times any and everyone would take their time and money and give up in a heart beat. There is not much to in this town beside go get your haircut and your car washed downtown Norwood but the town over is where all the life is, that town is Albemarle. when you say Norwood the fist thing that pops up in your mind is Albemarle. The two towns are like sister, they do everything together. when you live in Norwood you do all your shopping Albemarle that includes clothes shopping they have a little shopping center with Belk, JcPenny’s shoe show and footlocker. Now the favorite thing the kids like to do when they go to Albemarle is going to the skating rink, now when there is a all night skate night all the kids in Norwood BEG their parents to let them go. Norwood is an country town, when you hit that county line the first thing you hear is howdy y'all do you want go hunting with us. As you travel to the beach most people get the chance to see the town, a lot of people like to stop by just see this “cute little Quaint town” as they would say. But when they stop by Norwood will have it's arms opened wide.

China Grove is a small, cozy and weary town of NC. Every building that you pass looks like it has gone through the Civil War but it still stands tall as small businesses rule them. People work during the day but at night the small town thrives. Elderly people love to eat at Gary’s BBQ and China Grove Family House at night while the younger family’s love to go watch their relatives play sports. Even if the Small town does not make big headlines, if something happens in the town everyone knows about it. The people of the town love the old country feeling and southern mood that goes along with it. When people ask where you live you have to say “around Charlotte” or somewhere other than China Grove. No one remembers driving through the town unless you live here just like Radiator Springs in the Movie “Cars”
. This place feels like home even if you don’t live here because the people of China Grove are very nice and welcoming, no one is hardly ever querulous and everyone seems to get along. And if you become a part of China Grove you will figure out real quick that people love their football on Friday nights. The people love their good ol’ town and wouldn’t trade it for anything.

We’re more of an old fashioned town, where everybody knows everybody. People still use “yes ma’am" and “no ma’am". The town of Kannapolis is full of benevolent people, keeping our manners a priority. We’re also known for a person as special as our sweet tea, Dale Earnhardt; popular NASCAR driver! Earnhardt grew up in the small town of Kannapolis, and even holds the spot of our Hometown Hero Statue. Even though there isn’t much to do in the old town of Kannapolis, you can still enjoy the silent hills of grassy fields. Kannapolis is a warm and old fashioned place, making it a peaceful home…my home.

Kannapolis is a small town, that is very idyllic and quiet. Downtown is so quiet you could hear a leaf hit the ground. When summer comes around all the children run around playing and have fun with friends in the hot sun. In Village Park many activities happened like the Splash pad, Movies in the park, and many concerts where you’ll see smiling faces. You can always count on the Gem Theater to entertain you with a great movie, popcorn and a drink. Nascar is a huge thing in our town you hear their names in the air everywhere, like Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. Baseball is all around when the Intimidators play friends and family go to the game to support their local team. Also football with our Friday Night football game which is a very big deal you always come and support the football team. On Saturday people come out and do yard sales real early in the morning and you never know what you might find. On Sunday you won’t find people anywhere for most of us will be at church. After church you'll find people drinking their Cheerwine or Coffee talking about the good ole days and how they miss them while the children run around and play. I love this town with all it’s happiness and excitement and I couldn’t imagine growing up anywhere else.

The vernacular is very southern and is spoken with an accent. The sun stands proudly as it shines like a unique individual. Going through the city, you will find many restaurants and stores with limited places to park. But in the rural part of China Grove, there are many farms that supply the goods needed, such as milk. Trees surround neighborhoods and houses, and it’s almost like living in the middle of nowhere. In China Grove, there will be many yard sales that people are having to get unwanted things out of their houses. People are attracted to car shows and cruise-ins to see the old cars that were once popular in their generation. Therefore, the dedication to the city makes it the way it is today.

The old men meeting at car shows using that country vernacular that everyone here seems to have speaking of the good ole days and how long ago life here wasn't so boring and predictable, a time I cant even seem to imagine. If you stand on one of the rolling hills near some of the farms you feel like you can fly but alas as soon as you come down from the hill you feel like a caged and wounded baby bird, angry at the feeling that you will never have the chance to fly.
