-first-gen students are much less likely to take AP classes compared to their classmates who have one or more parent who went to college

-many first-gen student have to take on a responsibility at home like working to help make ends meet, babysitting or being a caretaker, and more which can hinder their academic success

-many first gen come from low income communities and from schools with little opportunities such as less or no AP classes, little to no sports, little to no clubs and little to no extracurricular opportunities

-affirmative action allows these students and their struggles me seen in order to give them better opportunities that they deserve
