One is to not always believe something that you may have not personally seen. However, I also do think because when Shakespeare wrote this there was still a massive split between white and black people. Many people had doubts about Othello and the way he would rule and use his power. I think that when this play came out during that era, it proved many peoples points in society as they thought very similarly as the Venetian society did towards Othello.
