Which parts of your identity do you think are chosen by you, and which are shaped by society? Why?

I choose my interests, the music I like, my goals for the future, the way I express myself, my religion, etc. These are things that come from my own decisions and personality. However, society also influences me a lot. Expectations from family, school, and even social media affect how I see myself and how I behave. For example, I love sports, but this was created by my family that took me to practice when I was a child. Another thing is that now I'm shy because of how I grew up, because my dad is also a shy person and I grew up seeing how he acted around people, and also social media has made me afraid of what people might think of what I say.

Journal Two - Intersectionality (Why is it important to look at overlapping identities instead of trating people as if they belong to only one group? How can this thinking help create a fairer society?)

It’s important to think about overlapping identities because people are more than just one thing—they can belong to many groups at the same time, like being a student, a girl, and from a certain culture. If we only focus on one part of who they are, we might miss the problems they face. For example, someone might have difficulties because of both their gender and their background. Thinking about all parts of a person helps us make rules and opportunities that are fair for everyone, so society can be more equal and inclusive.

Journal Three - What qualities or actions do you think are needed to become an activist?

To be an activist, a person needs passion, courage, and commitment. Passion makes someone care deeply about changing unfair situations. Courage helps them speak up, even when it’s difficult. Commitment keeps them working hard to make a lasting difference. For example, Ngugi Wa Thiong’o showed these qualities by using his writing to defend African culture and language against oppression. With these qualities, anyone can help create a more just and equal world.

Journal Four - Multiculturalism and Conflict - What do you think people, communities, or even artists can do to build peace and prevent violence when cultural differences lead to conflict?

People, communities, and artists can play an important role in building peace and preventing violence when cultural differences cause conflict. Artists can use their music, art, and writing to spread messages of unity and empathy, like U2 did with "Sunday, Bloody Sunday", showing the pain and loss caused by The Troubles. Communities can organize dialogues, cultural exchanges, and events that celebrate diversity to help people understand each others perspectives. Education is also key, as it teaches respect and tolerance from a young age. On a personal level, individuals can reject stereotypes, listen with empathy, and choose peaceful communication. Together, these actions help create understanding and make violence less likely.

Journal Five - Globalization and Art - How do you think globalization influences the way artists from different parts of the world express their ideas and emotions?

Globalization influences the way artists express their ideas and emotions by connecting them with people, cultures, and experiences from all over the world. Through the internet, travel, and global media, artists can share their work and be inspired by different traditions, styles, and social issues. This helps them create art that blends local and global perspectives, showing how the world is interconnected. At the same time, globalization allows artists to raise their voices about important topics like identity, diversity, and justice, reaching a wider audience and expressing emotions that people everywhere can understand.
