In this chapter, Ralph thinks about the qualities of being chief and how he can fulfil the role. He holds an assembly to get everyone to take their responsibilities seriously. He called the assembly not for fun, but for business.

But the boys did not listen to what Ralph says, and continued to giggle. Ralph loses his confidence when the boys followed Jack. He could not bring himself to summon everyone back, and he loses hope in not getting rescued.

He was confident that he proclaimed that he and his hunters will hunt the beast and kill it. His offer to kill the beast led to Ralph's authority.

His aggressive, self-assured behaviour becomes more appealing to the boys. He has the skill to persuade the boys about hunting.

Piggy clings onto Ralph, acting as his advisor. Piggy is intelligent, as he has been suggesting to Ralph about creative things that is helpful for the boys on the island.

Piggy has glasses, which is a symbol in the story. Piggy is blind without it. His glasses helped by lighting up the fire when the boys needed it.

In this chapter, Piggy says that beasties do not exist. And he is loyal, as he followed the rules no matter what.

They had their fears, and became scared when one of them claimed to have seen a beast. But Jack, assured them that he would hunt the beast and kill it, which made the boys persuaded by him.

The hunters care about hunting, just like Jack. They follow Jack, without thinking of what good would come.

The boys were not very serious about getting rescued. Hence, they lost their innocence when the civilization slowly corrupts.

Without the platform, there is no government or ruler. In Chapter 5, the meeting became noisy with laughter and shouting.

As the story progresses, the conch shell gradually loses control of the boys on the island. The boys do not listen to the calls and that is the reason why the symbolism of order slowly disappear.

The fire was lit many times but no one had attended to the fire to keep watch. They failed to get rescued.

The island represents a country and it is civilized when laws and orders were made. Unfortunately, the civil on the island gradually fades, when the island became different to the boys on the island.

Selfish and out of control, the boys on the island became wild, and barbaric.

His glasses represent the power of science and intellectual endeavour in society.

To sum up, The boys’ behaviour is what brings the beast into existence, so the more savagely the boys act, the more real the beast seems to become.

It is ironic that children were very innocent and decent but the novel shows how children can change individually. For example, the littluns.

As a result, Ralph and Jack started to quarrel. And it gives us a clue about what will happen between Ralph and Jack.
