It is a functional skill that forms the foundation for so many other skills/abilities and talents later on. It opens doors and allows us to access so much on our learning journey. The ability to read fluently and comprehend at higher levels will open doors in all avenues in the future. It supports advanced communication, articulation and understanding. It allows them to understand inference and empathy. It gives people access to a world of opportunities.

b. Increase students' reading and writing fluency. Increase students' ability to complete literacy tasks independently and with comprehension. Provide students with literacy skills that can help them outside of the classroom.

c. Differentiated teaching. Link literacy activities and lessons to real world situations. More interactive learning within the classroom, it is important to remember that verbal skills are just as much a part of literacy as written skills. Understanding the different literacy needs and accommodations that students require.
