Your play Romeo and Juliet is about young love. Why did you decide to make it end so sadly?

The sad ending shows how dangerous hatred between families can be.

Romeo and Juliet loved each other, but the world around them wouldn’t let them be together. Plus it gives the story a great plot twist that the readers wouldn't expect, which made it more popular.

The Elizabethan era was like a break. It let me time to think of my plays and plan it calmly. It was not total, because even thought the theatres were forbidden, i played some open air performances where people came and watch. Luckily after the Reign of Elizabeth ended, it began to start a new era: the Jacobean era, which was reigned by the King James I, a big fan of theater luckily He made all his effort to allow performances, to not be seen as a criminal for just expressing my desires to share my art, my point of view, my perspective, my ideas and philosophies with the rest. James gave a Royal patent to Lord Chamberlains men, the theatre company for which i worked for years, and built a new theatre: The Globe theather, a theather that still standing throught the years.

Where any of your plays inspired by the eras that you lived or about events of your life?

So, it depends in which book are we talking about. Some of them where about the history of that time, such as the plays i made, that weren't a book they were performed, about Queen Elizabeth´s and King´s James ancestors, or Macbeth, which includes the story of the 11th century scottish king called Macbeth as the title. On the other hand, many of my books or plays were based on Literature, like Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet and others. Last but not least, some of them were based on life experiences, for example, Hamlet, which was sadly influenced by the terrible death of my son. I guess that many things of your environment affect your way of thinking, im lucky that all the experiences, good or bad, leaded me to success.

Did you write your books with any specific purpose? Were they made to teach something? Did you write them thinking that many generations were gonna read them?

My purpose of the writings is to take out of the darkness the daily problems that the society thinks that it´s unmentionable by a performance that hides its reality to not be seen wrong, but to also let the people relate without being ashamed of saying it out loud. It shows that everything has a double meaning, letting space to analyze and receive different messages based on our thoughts and perspectives. I think that talk about society its what does not change during the time, and that its what makes a piece timeless.

Well talking about plays, what do you think about the actual theaters? I suppose they are quite different from what you are used to.

Yes theaters have changed a lot. Nowadays people are free to wright almost whatever they want . Back then, theaters weren't really accepted by the Queen Elizabeth the first and were quite suspicious, but when James the first became king he gave the theaters the "royal patent". Thanks to that we were able to built the globe theatre, where many of my plays were presented. And since england was so powerful, we had many resources available to make the best plays we could.

Why did you include a ghost in Hamlet? What role does it play in the story?

The ghost is important because it starts the whole story. It tells Hamlet the truth about his father’s murder and gives him a reason to act. The ghost also creates mystery, people don’t know if it’s real or if it can be trusted.
