When molecules collide, their bonds break aTherefore, because the 10% solution had more molecules NaCl because of its higher concentration, its molecules moved faster, explaining why it lost more mass than the 5% solution. Meanwhile, the 5% solution has fewer molecules of NaCl than the 10% solution, meaning they will be moving slower, ultimately leading to less mass lost.

For the ten percent and five percent salt solutions, each yielded a different loss of mass. There must be some factor that the concentration gradient plays in the rate of diffusion, otherwise the loss of mass would be the same for both solutions. Because the concentration gradient was different across all solutions (5%, 10%, and distilled), a different amount of particles collided for each. More particles collided in the 10% salt solution as opposed to the 5% salt solution, which explains the difference in the loss of mass. Due to this higher rate of particle collision in the 10% as opposed to the 5%, more kinetic energy was produced, allowing more particles passed through the membrane, affecting the rate of diffusion.

The amount of salt for each solution varied, as did the change in mass showing that the percent of salt affected the diffusion process. Because both of the eggs with salt sat for 10 minutes, and the egg with more salt lost more mass, it shows that the amount of solute changed the rate of diffusion. The greater amount of concentration gradient causes the diffusion to happen at a faster pace to balance the amount of solution in both the water and the egg.

By definition, diffusion moves molecules from a higher concentrated solution to a lesser concentrated solution across a permeable membrane. If there is a greater amount of molecules that need to move across a membrane, more molecules will hit each other and create kinetic energy, which in turn speeds up the reaction process. In the eggsperiment, the 10% salt solution required more molecules to move across the membrane, which produced a greater amount of kinetic energy that sped up the reaction process, as opposed to the 5% solution that had a lesser amount of kinetic energy and a slower reaction.
