In the story mystery of the old sea chest the author states in paragraph 2 that Gloria was determined to find out, but hat is not the only time Allison DePaul stated that in this story in paragraph 4 that Gloria was frustrated but did not give up. Lastly in paragraph 5 Allison states that Gloria felt proud of herself for working to solve it. that is some true determination there. what about mile high mystery? Well Joanna Banks states in paragraph 3 that the unnamed girl in the story says that she was determined to get the dog back to his owner. Also in paragraph 6 the unnamed girl in the story again said I sighed but i just couldn't give up. That is why i think this evidence supports the theme determination.

in the story "mystery of the old sea chest" Gloria wanted to find out where the money in the chest came from but she started to get frustrated but she's determined to know. She kept thinking:Who else in my family would know? She did'nt give up, in paragraph 3 she asked her mom about the money and she said your uncle Roger had it before we did. So she called him and asked him about it and he said "I had been storing it for your grandmother for years, i never bothered to look in it i just thought it was old sewing supplies" In paragraph 4 Gloria decided to ask her mom if, they could visit her aunt Jean? (Her grandmothers sister) her mom said "Yes" When they got there she asked her about it and she said sadly "Whenever my sister had extra money she would save it for trips but she never had the chance. So Gloria thought her grandmother would want them to use the money for a vacation. Gloria persevereance and determination in the story. And the story"MILE-HIGH MYSTERY"In paragraph 1 there's this girl and her sister Missy sitting at the kitchen table doing their homework and they hear a wail coming from outside and she goes out and sees a dog sitting on her porch encrusted with ice, they brought the dog inside and showed their parents he was a healthy dog and they cleaned him and warmed him up and looked at his dog tag and saw it said "MILE-HIGH" and her parents thought he was part of a animal clinic. So they looked at a phone book but there were no animal clinics named MILE-HIGH so she thought it must be a new clinic,So she called the operator and he said there is no Animal Clinic named MILE-HIGH, thought i can't give up not untill i get this poor fella back to his home, so she looked at the internet and looked up "MILE-HIGH animal clinic" and she saw that Denver,Colorado is nicknamed the "MILE-HIGH" so she knew that MILE-HIGH Animal clinic is in Denver,Colorado,so she IMMEDIATELY called them, and they said the person recently moved to fairbanks and their house was'nt far from theirs. And the mystery was solved. So both of these storys have one thing in common their main characters DID NOT GIVE UP, They were determined, they use perseverence

in the mystery of the old sea chest determination is used in the story like in one part of the mystery of the old sea chest Gloria was looking in a very old attic and finds a chest and when Gloria finds money in the chest she goes to her mom and asks her where the money came from Gloria's mom does not know where the money came but her mom tells Gloria that she should ask her great aunt jean. so Gloria ask aunt jean and aunt jean tells her about the money and then all of them spend the money on one big trip. determination is used because Gloria never gave up and kept looking for someone that knows something about the money. In the mile high mystery the plot of the story is that a girl sitting in the kitchen and she hears a big wail outside and she goes outside and she finds a dog covered in a lot of ice so she goes outside and finds the dog and takes the dog inside and warms the dog up with a blanket and a little later she looks at the collar and it says '' mile high '' so they take the dog to a animal clinic and then they go and look for the owner and after a long time but after a little while someones calls them and says its there dog and they find the dog a brand new home. determination is used in the story mile high mystery because the girl did not give up on finding the dog a home. in both story's the main characters did not give up.
