Post a link to one of the short stories that your group found and then answer this question in the text box: What makes it similar to the short stories you have already read? (HINT: What makes the theme of what you found connect to the big ideas we’re discussing/studying?)

Their themes are similar because its about priorities and seeing things a different way. In the White Heron Sylvia's priorities change from the boy to the Heron and she sees nature as being more important. In The Present the little boys priorities change from video games to the dog. He dismisses the dog until he realizes he likes the dog because it is like him.

As we were reading the short story there was an over-arching theme of robots taking over household chores. Most of the chores would be done by a human in this day and age. So we thought back to other short stories that we had read before. We had all (other than carter) had read a story called the veldt. In this story kids are no longer parented by their parents and instead they are distracted all day by a room in the house. in this room the walls come alive and it makes another world and the world is what ever the kids think it. Robots took over in the veldt as well as there will come soft rains and in both it ended badly.

There was a weird climax and resolution at the end where the wife had successfully gotten away with her husband's murder. The short story and the video are similar because it quickly rises to the climax, like "Test" had a climax at the very end. They both revolved around one central action that completely changed the outcome of the story. The theme was that every decision you make has a consequence. Both "Test'' and "Lamb To The Slaughter" involved decisions made by the main characters and their direct consequences afterward.

There is also always a theme . In The White Heron the protagonist is the little girl and the antagonist or the bad guy is the hunter who wants to kill the white heron. The two year boy is the protagonist in this story and the antagonist is the little boy's father who whips him because his disagrees with his young son. The theme in The White Heron we thought was to be considerate rather than greedy. We thought the theme was to respect one another for who you are even if one is older than another.
