"Modest proposal" and "After the women's march"

written by Johnathan swift, written by David brooks.

There hasn't been much change in the way that women are treated from the 18th century to now. Yes, they do have the right to vote now but they are still sometimes under paid and looked down in society as a whole. In the story modest proposal there is plenty of times when women are just seen as an object and forced to work to have the role as a mom. "Thus the squire would learn to be a good landlord and grow popular among the tenants the mother will have 8 shillings net profit and be fit for work till she produces another child" (Swift 626). This quote describes how women in this era of time are underappreciated and were only used for commercial usages implying that they were less valuable than men in society. " Then as to the females, it would, I think with humble submission, be a loss to the public, because they soon would become breeder themselves." (Swift 627).

In the 21st century we see that woman want the rights to be equal and not be belittled in anyway. We read an article and it talks about ways woman are fighting for their rights that they deserve to be treated equal. “They were reproductive rights, equal pay, affordable health care. (Dave brooks, page 1) this describes the women’s march that was held in Washington DC, that even today women aren’t receiving fair treatment from male peers and are under appreciated. This also shows how women to this day still have to fight for equality with men and that they aren’t just for breeding and house keeping. “ the marches offered the pink hats, an anti-trump movement built, oddly, around planned parenthood, and lots of signs with the word “p****” un them. The definition of America is up for grabs” (dave brooks, page 1). This shows how women have come together as one and proven to show America that they are more capable of doing the same work that they can. The equality of men and women should be taken seriously and not as a joke.
