When 52% of the UK decided to break apart from the EU and take their fate into their own hands, they were told this would mean the ruin of this country as we know it. The stock-market would crash, the pound would plummet and unemployment would soar to an all time high. Scare-mongers all over the country prophesised that their walk to the voting booth would equal a walk to the gallows. And they were proven wrong. While the stock market and pound did take a hit, as was to be expected after talk had solely circled around economical disaster and chaos for months this self-fulfilling prophesy was unavoidable. However, against all expectations the stock market and the pound recovered quickly afterwards. Furthermore, tourism has boomed, the housing market has seen a rise and people seem as confident in spending money as before. Boris Johnson’s idea of an Independence Day for Britain doesn’t seem as far away or as scary as it might have, but instead presents a hopeful outlook into the future for millions of Britons.
