These statements from the Introduction of the book really kicked off my thoughts and reflections while reading and reflecting. So much of our jobs as educators relates to influence and I strongly believe that you have to work on what makes you relatable to those you lead in order to be effective. This book helps with some of those areas that might not come as naturally. -Holland Poulsen

How does her description apply to leadership within our school district, leadership at your campus as well as you, yourself as a leader?

The pattern in leadership is the same no matter the leader! She list the 4 explicit ways all leaders are brave

1. Being vulnerable and not tapping out when it gets hard or personal

2. Living in values and having the behavior to support those values

3.Building trust within your team

4.How to reset when you fail in order to lead to the next move

I see these qualities both within my daily life professionally and personally. It takes a healthy amount of vision, fear, and risk to make bold and brave decisions not just for yourself but for the good of the majority and understand the goal is not to please everyone but to lead everyone. I see the qualities in my administrator as well as some of my teammates, which is what allows us to strategize, hold each other accountable, and lean on one another to make decisions for not only staff but for the best interest of students.

As I work on my "homework" and dive deep into the leader I selected....I can't help but think and ask: If I were to give this assignment to my teachers at the end of the year on myself, what would they say my leadership qualities are and how would they show evidence of those?
