(Follow the planning guide)

✓ When picking events for your field day, allow for each family member to pick one event that they really want to do. For example, if you have 4 members in your family, they each get to choose one game/event for field day.

✓ The suggestion is to have at least 4 events, so this week be sure to practice and try out two of your chosen events.

1) Always swim with a buddy in a supervised area. Never swim alone! Make sure someone is swimming with you and that there is a lifeguard or adult supervising.

2) Be cool, follow the rules. All pool areas (private pool and public pools) have rules like no diving, shower before entering the pool, no rough play, etc. Respect and follow all Safety rules!

3) Look before you Leap. Always check the water before jumping in. Make sure you know how deep it is and look to see if people and objects are out of the way.

4) Reach or throw, don’t go! Never jump in a try to save someone! The person in trouble in the water might pull you down in their panic and then there would be two people in trouble. Here is what you do: Call out for help (the adult or lifeguard) and reach out with a water noodle or pool net pole for the person to grab hold of. You also can toss them a Lifeguard Rescue Ring or something else that floats for them to hold on to.

5) Don’t just pack it, wear your jacket. Put on your life jacket before you get into a boat. Don’t stick it under your seat and hope you will be able to put it on in trouble.

Think so you don’t sink. Stay calm if you are in trouble in the water and think about what you can do to help yourself.
