  Based on the cases that I encountered as a school social worker, there are theee major reasons behind this trend including peer pressure, advertisment and teenage self image. Teens always care about others’ opeinions towards themselves and value their peers. They would  likely to blindly follow their friends’ actions if the peer group started to have diet.

  Advertisment also contributes to such phenomenon by advocating the idea of thinness. It causes pressure to teenagers when the social media keeps spreading the idea of being thin.
