Footballers racially abused

Racism towards footballers has been used a lot over the past 10 years, it’s out of proportion, as all footballers should be treated with respect like everyone else wants to be treated. Footballers are racially abused in diverse ways, some of them are abused by the fans that shout racist chants at them, sometimes it happens by their own fans but mostly by the oppositions fans. In the image placed in the top right corner, famous footballer Dani Alves had a banana thrown at him from the fans whilst taking a corner kick, this was probably aimed at his ethnicity, he reacted to it by eating the banana. In the top left photo, Luis Suarez was racist towards Patrice Evra, this is because he didn’t want to shake his hand and covered it with his sleeve, however, Evra grabbed his arm when Suarez was passing by, again ethnicity was the case in that situation.

Organisation plans

There are many organised plans by governing bodies around the world to get rid off racism in football, few times captains made a speech before an important game in the Champions League to make people aware of how much impact racism has on footballers, but also on other people affected by it. There are many known campaigns around the world that try to stop racism in football. One of the organisations is ‘Kick It Out’ that is all about football equality, they started ‘The Let’s Kick Racism Out of Football’ campaign in 1993. Another campaign that has been started recently, was ‘Say No To Racism’, by UEFA, the governing body in Europe. They produced a TV advert that featured different footballers, from different countries, saying ‘No to racism’ in their first language. To open the video press on the image.

Gender Issues
Lack of TV coverage

Male football is more popular than female football, we know this because there’s so much more TV coverage for men football than women football. Sky and BT Sports advertise the Premier League, Europa League and Champions League more than any other popular women’s league. The likelihood reason for lack of TV coverage of women football is simply because of the low popularity of it, probably due to the ability difference between the two genders, only small groups of people would watch a Women’s Champions League Final compared to millions of people watching the male version of the Champions League Final. It’s more financially positive for a TV network to show the male version of the final rather than the female final. They wouldn’t get as much revenue for it.

Pay difference

Pay difference between the two genders are huge. Records from 2015 show that when Wayne Rooney was earning £300,000 a week, the top English female earner, Steph Houghton was earning £35,000 a year. She earned 10 times as little in a year as what Wayne Rooney earned in a week. At that time, the world’s top female earner, Alex Morgan earned £285,000 a year, which is still less than what Wayne Rooney earned in a week. The differences in pay for playing the same sport are enormous and very unfair, because the women footballers still do the same role as men, however, aren’t as popular, so sponsors and millionaires invest less in them.

Transsexuals

The FA has made special rules involving transsexuals participating in the new gender teams. As any person playing in the ages between U7-U16 may play in a match involving boys and girls, without restrictions. Therefore, there’s no condition set regarding any individual playing in a match under their reassigned gender in these age groups. On the other hand, if you are 16+, you come under ‘Adult Player’, in this case a special form has to be submitted to The FA, then pieces of evidence have to be shown and they have to clearly check the hormone levels to see if the person if allowed to compete in the new gender sport, with the correct results that are the requirements.
