The class discussion about the video watched was really eye opening, and it was interesting to learn other people's perspectives. I enjoyed talking with the others about how connecting data with stories can make them more memorable, and how storytelling can make someone more trustworthy to others. I believe that storytelling is incredibly important when it comes to literacy as it can engage a reader or a listener and the story can have a profound impact on someone's brain. Digital literacy is something new to me, but I also find it quite interesting. Digital literacy is interesting because you are communicating through a different medium, being the internet. It is easier to attach data and other forms of detailed evidence to storytelling online, and I feel that with so many different programs at our fingertips, we can be able to communicate really useful thoughts and information to a bigger audience.

I agree with this definition as I believe it is more complicated than being able to read and write. I agree that literacy also encompasses interaction and participation in the world. I like the fact that it mentions the criticism needed for being in the digital age and coming into contact with digital literacy. It is also mentioned that literacy in this article includes the competency to use the tools that the web provides. When talking about digital literacy, I understand this different rhetoric when comparing digital and physical literacy, and I am excited to explore the ideas that this article mentions. When it comes to things to challenge, I do not really see any, but I feel as it sinks in more, I may feel like there is something for me to challenge.

Bad News: I really really liked this game. It made you realize how easy it is to fool people by putting you in the driver's seat of the one fooling others. It also gives responses of someone uncomfortable with the idea, which helps because it shows how bad the average person would feel if they were to create fake news that severely impacts others. I like how it shows the process of credibility and how far someone can get from starting a twitter account to a whole news website full of fake news. The different tactics such as emotion is important to realize as emotion is what grabs people's attention. Conspiracy was an interesting one that super common and I didn't think about it that much, so I was really happy to see that one mentioned.

Fakey: This one was a little more difficult, there was no clear directions on what to do so it was a lot of trial and error. Overall I think it is good once you get the gist of it, and I liked seeing if sharing or fact-checking was a good choice. I think it pins buzzwords and emotions into a corner so that people know what to look for in potential fake news headlines.

NewsFeed: I enjoyed this one because it puts you in the shoes of a blog moderator and shows you what to look out for in news and posts. I like that it gives you the different options to fact check posts and look at the posters. Overall, a really good game to test your skills at recognizing fake or misleading news and whether it belongs in your blog or not.

Interland: Interland is really fun, but it is definitely slower paced. If the questions were harder and I could go faster I believe it would be more enjoyable but it is meant for young kids so it makes sense. Overall this is a great website that uses real situations that students could encounter, and shows them ways to not deal with it and the correct way to deal with it.

I believe that all of these sites are good for students to use. I believe that Bad News and Newsfeed are the best of the four and I would use these with my students if I ever did a unit on media literacy such as a yellow journalism unit while teaching the Spanish-American War. I believe that it could put a historical problem into modern context and relates very well to real world issues.

This book response is a little late but I read the first four chapters of my book. The first three chapters explore the main character's childhood and the differences in the relationships she has with her parents. She also talks about her school life and her relationships with her friends. One of the largest ideas that was explored was that of her identity. Her not knowing what to identify as and struggling with her identity with her friends is relatable. She doesn't look like her friends but she identifies as like what her friends are. I felt like this a lot and still feel like this now with my identity. Being half Puerto Rican and half Polish is difficult when I connect with one part of myself more but I present more like the other. I have had experiences like the main character, with people telling me that I do not look like what I primarily identify as. I have been told that I am "not brown enough" to be Puerto Rican, but not cultured enough to be Polish, putting me in this weird limbo as a child raised Puerto Rican but looking more Polish. I understand where she comes with struggling with her identity, and the extremely different environments that her father and mother provided culturally. I really enjoy this book so far.

I finished the book. There is not a lot of text since it is mostly image based. I really really enjoyed this graphic novel. There were a lot of themes that I could identify with, a lot of them being a multicultural kid with difficulty with my identity, as well as the way that people perceived me. Seeing the struggles she had with the people she knew opened my eyes to experiences like hers where she had those groups but didn't know which one to fit into. I really enjoyed seeing her becoming more culturally open at her time at Syracuse and living in Washington DC, where she met all types of peoples and learned what was acceptable with them vs. what was acceptable with her family. Seeing her college experience and eventually falling in love and struggling with her father's disapproval was emotional, and his eventual approval was very heartwarming to see. Overall, I really love this graphic novel and I think it tells the story of a girl struggling with her identity extremely well.

Digital Poetry Analysis

            Making this digital poetry analysis was a little difficult in the beginning as I am not very partial to poetry. I like only certain poets so finding something I can set to photographs was a little difficult. I wanted to go with something that was a little easier to understand because I have a hard time deciphering poetry, my mind is not very plastic to certain ideas. When I chose my poem, I know I wanted to go with a Langston Hughes poem because he is one of my favorites. I really loved the idea of the Harlem Renaissance, so I wanted to use some of his work. When I read the poem, I immediately wanted to do a comparison of God to humans as he plainly talks about it. How God can be sad because he does not have the freedoms that humans have. Him as the divine creator is a jealous of his creation, because of their capabilities. I wanted there to be soft piano music, which was a little tough to find, and then I used the Library of Congress to look up some images. As a history student and a Catholic, I wanted to connect it to old Catholicism, which is why I found those portraits of Jesus, the Bible, and the young girl in front of a white cross so astounding. I struggled with the voiceover, as I did not know how to portray God, and I settled on my own voice because there is no known voice of God, God can be anything and anyone and God can sound however. I hear God as he speaks to me reading my bible in my voice, so that is God to me as that is how I hear his word. With the voiceover, I wanted to sound sad and a little defeated so one could connect that emotion to the video. I wanted the video to seem sad, as one connects with God and feels his sadness at not being able to be like a human on Earth, that is why I chose the soft piano and the photographs I did. I was glad to do this project in the end and I believe I learned a good skill with the wevideo program. I believe that this is a fantastic project for students to do to be connected to poetry and to help others visualize it as how they interpret it. With my final project, I believe that it was a lot more successful than when I first started out. I believe that this would be a great way for students to show how they think especially with imagery and poetry. I would use this in my classroom if I were an English teacher. In a history setting, I could use this for speeches and proclamations and other texts like these.

I was extremely excited to use the Tech Tool Goblin Tools for my tech demo lesson. I really liked the idea that it was designed to help those who are neurodivergent and may have learning disabilities like ADHD. One of my favorite features of the website was the Judge tool, as it is meant to decipher the tone behind messages. I have a very hard time with tone in writing, so I found it to be extremely useful, especially when writing disgruntled emails to residents in my building. I do not want to come off too strong, but I must be firm in the rules to be followed, so it helped me set the tone of my email as authoritative but not mean. I found this to be incredibly useful when I got confusing messages from family and friends as well. I think that my lesson went alright, one thing that I did not like was flipping from the presentation to the website but I honestly do not think that there was a better way to do it. I liked that the students brought items from their cupboards and got to use it in the chef feature. I feel like they really enjoyed that and I love when they shared their creations, such as cinnamon chicken. The feedback that I got was mostly positive, with a few things to improve on such as speaking slower and trying to see if there was a way to not flip back and forth between the website and the presentation. If I can figure out a way to do that, I will definitely implement it if the opportunity arises again. One of the feedback points I was a little confused by, as they told me to go over if it uses AI or not, which I did. I explained the AI features so I am unaware how much they wanted me to go in depth with it. I also gave them the option to share or not so I am confused by some of the feedback that told me that I should have given them a choice if they wanted to share or not. I was glad that most of them liked my pacing as it was something I was worried about. There is so much to explore with goblin tools, and I felt that I would go over the time limit since there are so many little details. Next time, I would go over my lesson plan a little more since I forgot that one of my slides existed. I will definitely try to speak slower, I know that I tend to speak a little fast when I have a lot to say and since I was nervous about the time limit I spoke a little too fast for some people. Overall, I think that it went well but some of my skills need a little more polishing.

My preferred social media outlet has to be snapchat. I mostly communicate with my friends on there since it is easy to send images rather than over text. With the call and video chat feature it is useful because everything is in one place. I think that I am a lot more casual when I use snapchat to talk to my friends, I can send gifs and reactions, meanwhile in real life I am more formal and closed off, I do not really know why. Texting my friends over social media is a lot more flowy and since everyone is communicating so fast you have tot respond quickly. Compare that with in real life, you can't really cut someone off while talking but over messages it is easy and not really seen as rude. There is a more rigid outline of conversation in real life meanwhile it is looser over social media.
