Using the speed of sound and the wavelength that I previously calculated, I was able to calculate the fundamental frequency of the oboe. This is quite a bit higher than my measured frequency. It's a little odd, because the fundamental frequency is the lowest frequency of a periodic wave form, yet it's much higher than my measured frequency. I guess this is because the app I used on my phone isn't all too accurate, and also because it's hard to make the exact same pitch constantly on this straw oboe, so the results may have gotten a bit wonky.

Just out of curiosity, I measured what the wave speed actually would be according to the frequency of the sound that I measured. After this calculation, I was curious whether this value was close to what the speed of sound would be in the temperature of my house. My house was at 74° F at the time, so I calculated the speed of sound using that temperature. Sadly, it's 345 m/s, which is not anywhere near the wave speed I calculated. I think this is because one, the air in my house is not completely dry, and two, this wavespeed relies on my measured frequency, which I explained why it may be off previously.

This isn't for points, but I wanted to see how this value compared to what I saw in reality. About 7.8% is a pretty realistic number, actually. It actually looked like only that much was submerged under the water.

The Wave Equation for this scenario

I chose to use sin, rather than cos, because I figured that the waves began at equilibrium rather than starting at max amplitude, and besides, I measured them from equilibrium. The waves moved in the positive x direction, so I made it minus x/v. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to substitute my measured time in for t, but we didn't substitute it in in any of our practice problems during lecture videos, so I decided not to. This wave equation utilized my very rough measurements of wavelength and amplitude, so it's not the most accurate of equations.

Thank you for making this online class very easy to navigate and making such great lecture videos, such that I feel like I learned more than I would if the class was in person. I wish you both the best, and thank you again!
