He touched the something in there again. For a moment his face seemed puzzled, lonely, almost haunted, and then, as his hand left the pocket, it regained its former expression of eager expectation."    1. This foreshadows danger because as the protagonist touches the item his mood changes drastically. His facially expressions begin to look lonely, puzzled and hunted. It is clear to say that whatever is in his pocket brings him an uneasy/uncomfortable feeling.
 2. The "something" clearly causes discomfort. As a reader, this causes you to become suspicious of the young man. He portrays himself as a very kind, charming and loving person. So, what could he possible be carrying that would cause him to feel such discomfort?
3. Last point, before the young man had touched the "something" in his coat pocket bad news was heard on the radio. It stated that a hammer man was still on the loose.
