The movie poster was also released into cinemas and online on the same day of the trailer release.
The over all marketing campaign for the film was very social media based, and the creators and producers of the film even asked people on social media to share their opinion on how they would survive the purge.
From the first purges release date the distributing company Universal studios, has made the purge a section of their horror nights at halloween since 2013. Bringing publicity to the film even after its cinema release; and even good Publicity for the 2nd and 3rd films during these events.

In its opening weekend, The Purge topped the box office with $16.8 million on opening day and $34.1 million through the entire weekend. The film has collected $64,473,115 domestically and $24,855,512 outside the United States, for a total of $89,328,627 worldwide.
