Standard-based, is it norm-referenced, criterion-based? How is the data presented? How was is the content being taught? Are the same standards being tested? How are the students being assessed? Different versions of the test, different types of questions, how is the material being presented (hands on, field trips, directly from the book) Is the teacher following the county’s curriculum? More hands-on? Direct or indirect instruction? How is it administered? Format, question type, length of test, time given to complete test, How is scored? Rubric, raw score, computer-based or human graded… certain tests call for different scoring. Population and cultural relevance, can be very subjective. Comparing grade or age—not what they’re being taught. Lack of understanding of how to interpret the score, and lack of training to interpret or explain (i.e. to a parent) the score.
