Six pillars of faith

In Islam, the Pillars of Islam refer to the five fundamental acts that every Muslim must perform as a sign of obedience and devotion to Allah. These pillars serve as the foundation of a Muslim's life and represent their faith in Allah and the teachings of Islam

1) Shahada (Declaration of Faith)

which is the belief that “There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is His Messenger.” This is the most important pillar, as it confirms a person’s belief in Islam. By sincerely reciting and believing in the Shahada, a person officially becomes a Muslim

2) Salah (Prayer)

which is the five daily prayers performed at specific times: Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha. Salah is a way for Muslims to stay connected to Allah, seek His guidance, and remain disciplined in their daily lives. It also helps keep a person away from wrongdoing

3)Sawm (Fasting in Ramadan)

which means not eating, drinking, or engaging in sinful activities from sunrise to sunset during the month of Ramadan. Fasting teaches self-control, patience, and gratitude. It is a time for Muslims to reflect, increase their worship, and help those in need

4)Zakat (Charity)

which is giving a portion of one’s wealth to the poor and needy. Zakat helps to purify wealth and reduce inequality in society. It reminds Muslims to be generous and care for others, ensuring that the less fortunate are supported

5)five Pillars of Islam

guide Muslims in their daily lives, helping them to be better people and stay close to Allah. By practicing these pillars, a Muslim strengthens their faith and prepares for the afterlife.

Pillars of iman

In Islam, the Pillars of Iman (Faith) are six key beliefs that every Muslim must accept. These beliefs form the foundation of a Muslim’s faith and guide them in life

1)belief in Allah

which means believing that Allah is the One and Only God, the Creator of everything, and the Most Powerful. He has no partners, no children, and nothing is equal to Him. Muslims must worship Him alone and trust in His wisdom

2)belief in angels

who are created by Allah from light and have important duties. Angels do not eat, drink, or sin. Some of the well-known angels include Jibril (Gabriel), who delivers Allah’s messages to prophets; Mikail (Michael), who controls rain; Israfil, who will blow the trumpet on Judgment Day; and Munkar and Nakir, who question people in their graves

3)belief in the holy books

which are scriptures revealed by Allah to guide people. These books include the Tawrat (Torah) given to Prophet Musa, Zabur (Psalms) given to Prophet Dawud, Injil (Gospel) given to Prophet Isa, and the Quran, which was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The Quran is the final and most complete book, and it remains unchanged until the end of time.

4) belief in the prophets

who were chosen by Allah to guide their people. There were many prophets, including Adam, Nuh (Noah), Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses), Isa (Jesus), and Muhammad (PBUH), who was the final prophet. All prophets taught people to worship only Allah and live righteously.

5)belief in the Day of Judgment

when all people will be resurrected and held accountable for their actions. Those who did good will enter Paradise (Jannah), while those who did evil will be punished in Hell (Jahannam). Many signs will appear before this day, such as the coming of Dajjal (the false messiah), the return of Prophet Isa (Jesus), and the sun rising from the west

6)belief in Qada’ and Qadar (Divine Decree)

which means everything happens according to Allah’s plan. Allah knows everything that has happened, is happening, and will happen. Even though Allah has destined everything, humans still have free will to make choices. This belief teaches Muslims to accept life’s challenges with patience and trust in Allah’s wisdom

Alhamdulillah, I am grateful for the opportunity to attend this usrah session with my fellow friends. Usrah is not just a gathering, but a space to gain knowledge, improve ourselves, and strengthen our bond as Muslims. I would like to express my gratitude to our facilitator for sharing valuable insights and guidance.

Throughout this session, I have learned a lot about the importance of knowledge, manners, and our responsibilities as Muslims. Every discussion has opened my mind to see Islam as a comprehensive way of life. One of the most impactful lessons for me was about the concept of ihsan—doing everything with sincerity and excellence for the sake of Allah.

I hope that all the knowledge gained today can be applied in daily life. I also pray that this usrah continues to be a platform for us to remind each other of goodness and strengthen our faith. May Allah bless our efforts and guide us to become better servants of Him.

Virtues Found in Salah with Khushu’ (Spiritual Focus)

When a Muslim performs Salah with khushu’ — meaning full concentration, sincerity, and humility — it leads to the development of deep spiritual values that shape a strong Islamic character. These include:

1. 🟢 Al-Ta‘ah (Obedience to Allah)

Salah with khushu’ is a practical demonstration of total obedience to Allah. You respond to His call, perform what He has commanded, and show complete submission to His will.

Every movement and word in Salah reflects a believer’s readiness to obey Allah without hesitation.

Khushu’ makes that obedience meaningful, not mechanical. It trains the soul to love and follow Allah in all matters — not just in ritual.

2. 🟡 Jihad al-Nafs (Struggle Against the Self)

Praying with khushu’ requires fighting distractions, controlling desires, and training the soul to focus — this is a form of spiritual jihad.

Salah with khushu’ helps discipline the nafs (ego/self), which is one of the greatest inner struggles a believer faces.

Standing for prayer, leaving comfort, and keeping the heart focused is itself an act of spiritual courage and discipline.

3. 🔵 Muhasabah (Self-Accountability)

Salah reminds the believer of the Day of Judgment, where every deed will be accounted for. When one prays with khushu’, they reflect deeply on:

“Am I fulfilling Allah’s rights?”

“Am I sincere?”

“What sins must I repent from?”

Khushu’ makes Salah a daily mirror for self-evaluation, encouraging repentance and improvement.

4. 🟣 ‘Iffah (Modesty and Chastity)

Regular Salah with khushu’ nurtures inner modesty. A person becomes more careful about their actions, words, and relationships.

It helps control desires and urges, especially when praying sincerely to seek Allah’s pleasure.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

Khushu’ makes a person more aware of Allah’s presence, promoting chaste, respectful, and clean living.

5. 🔴 Tawadhu’ (Humility)

Salah, especially with khushu’, breaks arrogance. When a person bows and prostrates, they physically and spiritually express:

“I am nothing without You, O Allah.”

“I submit to Your greatness.”

Khushu’ develops true humility in both spiritual life and how we treat others. It reminds us that all humans are equal before Allah, regardless of status or wealth.

Sawm (fasting) is the fourth pillar of Islam. It is more than abstaining from food and drink — it is a deep act of spiritual purification, self-control, and closeness to Allah. When observed sincerely, Sawm shapes character, builds taqwa (God-consciousness), and brings immense physical, emotional, and spiritual benefits.

🕌 Key Virtues Found in Sawm

1. 🟢 Taqwa (God-consciousness)

Fasting trains the heart to be always aware of Allah’s presence.

Even when no one is watching, the believer controls their actions, out of obedience to Allah.

2. 🛡️ Sabr (Patience)

Fasting builds endurance — through hunger, thirst, and emotional restraint.

One avoids arguing, gossip, anger, or reacting negatively.

3. 🧘‍♂️ Nafs Control (Self-Discipline)

Sawm teaches control over desires — not just food, but also ego, lust, and emotions.

It breaks addictions, bad habits, and builds self-mastery.

4. ❤️ Empathy for the Poor

Feeling hunger helps the rich understand the suffering of those who go hungry daily.

This increases compassion and charity (sadaqah).

5. 💎 Sincerity (Ikhlas)

Fasting is a secret act — only Allah knows whether a person is truly fasting.

Unlike prayer or charity, fasting is hidden from people and purely for Allah.

This teaches pure sincerity, where the believer seeks Allah’s pleasure alone.

6. 📖 Connection with the Qur’an

Ramadan is the month when the Qur’an was revealed.

Fasting revives spiritual hunger, and people return to reading, memorizing, and reflecting on the Qur’an.

7. 🕊️ Forgiveness of Sins

Fasting sincerely for Allah’s sake leads to complete forgiveness of past sins.

8. 🏆 Special Reward from Allah

Fasting holds a unique reward, directly promised by Allah Himself.

9. 🌅 Spiritual Joy and Inner Peace

Fasting brings two joys:

One at the time of breaking fast

One when meeting Allah on the Day of Judgment
