         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>The Chaffee County government is led by three elected commissioners:<br>    - </strong>There are three districts, each with one commissioner:<br>         - District One, Keith Baker<br>         - District Two, Greg Felt<br>         - District Three, Rusty Granzella<br><strong>     - </strong>The overall responsibility of these commissioners is to act as the over-arching governing body of the county as a whole. Their authority is determined by state law, however they have to power to ´´make all contracts which are essential to the management of the county affairs.´´ This includes a wide range of tasks, from approving budgets and hiring county employees to overseeing county legislation and public works (roads, bridges, parks, etc.)<br><strong>Services Provided:</strong></div><ul><li>Accounting and Administration</li><li>Adult Protection</li><li>Child Protective Services (CPS)</li><li>Child Support Enforcement</li><li>Colorado Child Care Assistance Program (CCCAP)</li><li>Kinship Care, Foster Care, and Adoption</li><li>Public Assistance</li><li>Chaffee County Boys and Girls Club</li><li>Development Services</li></ul><div><strong>Budget (2018) :</strong></div><ul><li>The county, after taxes and funds, has a usable budget of about  <strong><em>$43,626,000</em></strong><ul><li>65% of this budget goes towards the general fund, which is the county's "primary operating fund". It is used maintain the services such as county administration, public health, and public safety.</li><li>18% is used for the social services fund,  which are government services provided for the benefit of the community, such as education, medical care, and housing.</li><li>7%  is used for the retirement fund, which is the county's contributions to the retirement fund for county employees.</li><li>5% is used for the animal shelter fund, which is directly remitted to the Ark-Valley Humane Society.</li><li>3% is used for the capital expenditure fund, which is used for the acquisition and/or construction of capital facilities for specific departments of the county.</li><li>2% is used for the road and bridge fund, which builds roads and bridges.</li></ul></li></ul><div><strong>Key Issues Facing the County:</strong></div><ul><li>Affordable Housing</li><li>Forest Health</li><li>Reduction of public lands</li><li>Recycling</li><li>Public transportation</li><li>The effects of the marijuana industry of the county</li></ul><div><br><br></div><div><br><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div>]]></description>
