Released by Bioware in March of 2017, Mass Effect demonstrates how postmodern media blurs the boundaries between reality and representation.

- Baudrillard simulacrum: the virtual world that the player explores is a copy of a copy of reality which has attained a new identity. No longer does the terrain signify traditional concepts but instead reflects the social constructions of the 22nd century (time period the game is set in) which the player learns then takes a 'true'

- Hyper reality: By then taking on this new meaning of the virtual world, the player then begins to create their own hyper reality as the 'fake' world is now seen as real' and this is furthered through the 'sandbox' method where in which the player can chose where, when and how long they take to explore the new world around them.

-Hyperconscious: Yet, the game is aware of its own construction which is signified through the method again, as the player is allowed to determine where the narrative goes to next. Due to the multiple of options given, for a moment the hyper reality is lost as the player is reminded that they are playing a game, life would not demonstrate a set four options to chose for when making a decision.

Lady Gaga

HYPER REALITY: Lady Gaga is a stage name she has created for herself - she is rarely referred to as Stefani Germanotta. She keeps her personal life and her celebrity status separate - this gives her the ability to control her image. It also allows her to get away with outrageous things (like wearing a meat dress). When her fans see Lady Gaga, they see her image and her 'on-stage persona', rather than her private life. In an interview she pace said that she had 'mastered the art of fame'. By this, she means that by creating a hyperreal version of herself, she has been able to keep the press away from her regular life.

INTERTEXTUALITY:
The opening titles of her music video 'Telephone' read 'starring Lady Gaga and Beyonce', which makes it appear like a movie. The yellow font with the dark red drop shadow also closely represents the text 'Jackie Brown'. In the video, Beyonce's nickname is Honey Bee, which references the character in Pulp Fiction: Honey Bunny. The scene in Telephone also closely mirrors the scene in which Honey Bunny is in in Pulp Fiction. The most obvious Tarantino reference in Lady Gaga's music video comes from the 'pussy wagon' that Lady Gaga and Beyonce drive: the exact same car is driven in Tarantino's film, Kill Bill Vol. 1.

BRICOLAGE: There are some Andy Warhol inspired scenes in the music video for Telephone. Gaga and Akerlund challenge the gender stereotype of the 'perfect housewife' portrayed heavily in 1950s pop culture, using Wonder Bread and Miracle Whip as their artistic devices. Gaga plays the stereotypical 50s housewife in this scene, but she uses bricolage to create a new meaning to show how she felt about the stereotype (she shows her opinion by poisoning all the customers in the diner).
