  • What is important is not language, and surely not grammar, but saying (writing)-doing-being-valuing-believing-combinations known as 'Discourse' with a capital D.
  • A form of being in the world, forms of life which integrates words, acts, attitudes, values, beliefs, social identities, etc.
  • Form of identity kit which comes complete with an appropriate costume and instructions on how to act, talk, and often write, so as to take on a particular role that others will recognize.
  • Discourses are not mastered by overt instruction, but by enculturation into social practices through scaffolded and supported interaction with people who have already mastered the Discourse.
