Similar to my 'Head in the Clouds' design, this is a take on the expression 'Head over Heels'. I wanted to include subtle touches towards the freedoms of self expression, while maintaining a simple and elegant design.

A common theme of mine has been to take common idioms and words and create something beautiful and unique. This is another Affinity design based on the idiom 'When Pigs Fly'. I wanted to show beauty in the impossible.

This piece was done entirely through Google Docs and screenshots. I had recently studied abroad in Bali, Indonesia and wanted to create a piece about the culture shock of returning to the United States. In this piece I included images from my hometown, Moraga, as well as Denver and Bali to show the mental disconnect I felt when leaving and returning. This is one of my all time favorite pieces because it shows that no matter where a person is, the places they have been will always accompany them in one way or another.

Carla Gannis Portrait

Carla Gannis is a digital media and painting based artist, known for her quirky and wild work with emojis. I chose to create this portrait of Carla because she has a very unique and colorful style, much like myself. In the text portions of my portrait I used pieces describing her past as an artist as well as bio’s I found describing her work that I used as inspiration. I made this piece with Affinity Designer.

For this piece I wanted to focus on sexuality and gender identity. I wanted to show the beauty in being different and chose to do so with a variety of different images. I used hex fiend in this project to zest up my images before further glitching them in Affinity Photo. I used a lot of repeating elements and the blend tools heavily. I really liked how my piece has a cyclical look to it, it moves your eyes around the canvas.

For this piece, I wanted to focus on the theme of beauty standards and how they might change over time. I really wanted to emphasize a shift from the current Eurocentric beauty standards into a more diverse realm. This was made in Affinity Photo, and any and all questions are welcomed! Every single detail has a unique meaning and purpose.
