I actually as a teacher use some of these techniques. I have folders for my rolls, make up logs, and doctor notes, just for the simple fact it is easier to just put them in folders than binders. I also empty my teacher bag at least 1xs a month so i can throw the stuff out I do not need. I often encourage my students to check their grades often and if there is a problem then to come see me instead of emailing me if possible, I encourage that face to face conversation with them.

I have my students check their grades at least once every two weeks. I do this so that they know what I might be missing but also so that I can have dialogue with them about things I may have missed them turning in or if they have any questions with grades. I also love Schoology because you can setup your folders in such a manner that will help these types of students stay organized.

Prokopis- I really like the suggestion about the month to month planner as opposed to the whole year. As an adult, I am used to planning out things months in advance, but children have to LEARN HOW to do this. Using a weekly or monthly planner is a great way for them to build on this skill. I like the weekly overhaul times as well; Tuesday and Thursday study hall times would be perfect for this... Or even Friday Feature 10 min of check grades, make a list, clean binder.... etc... I typically have my students check their grades during class to make sure they do not have any NTIs. I also have students use their agendas, but I don't really check up behind them.

In my splits, I have a drawer that they can leave work in from day to day. Often, when we have not yet finished something, they just put it in the drawer and get it out when they come back in. Having a predetermined place for them to leave work still requires them to put it somewhere specific and also cuts down on the number of lost papers. So many of my split kids struggle with organization, so this system has really worked for us.

This is a struggle for me. Probably realizing that it's a problem and helping the student come up with his/her own solutions. Students need to learn to organize information and priorities in a way that makes sense to them - just like I do!

I have students organize the material for my class into separate folders as we change units. That is always my "to do" as they come into class when we are starting a new unit. I suppose this is like the separate folder for organizing papers.

I have 1 place where kids turn in papers, finished or not. All of the materials (dry erase boards, markers, stapler, tape, etc) are in 1 place that anyone get access. The agenda board in my classroom is clear and to the point. The HW board matches exactly what the board says so there is no confusion. I have tried to add quizzes/tests on the Schoology calendar to help the kids with dates. With respect to Schoology, I organize the folders into 3 categories and everything is color coded. Just like the kids, I up-end my bookbag about once a week to make sure all papers are accounted for and in the correct place!
