Hi, My name is Fatima Zahid. The Anti-Modern I chose to write about is my Hardcover copy of The Holy Quran in Arabic. This object means faith to myself. This is because at hard times in my life I like to read it in my mother tongue. This is anti modern because in an era where we can read the Quran on our smartphones and ipads, it is with greater faith when I open my hardcover copy and read the calligraphy in Arabic. It is also more inconvenient to get the physical copy as Muslims we must do ablution to touch the physical copy of the Quran whereas if I open it on my phone I could avoid that. It is also anti modern because I read it in Arabic slowly which was the language that it was sent down in, whereas I could fluently read it in English and take away from the old fashioned experience. My Quran relates to the reading of Saloni Mathur -- To Visit the Queen. I make this connection as Saloni Mathur depicts India as something timeless and traditional when India was displayed at the colonial and Indian exhibition it was set apart than the Western world as India was spiritual vs the West being industrialized. Lastly, ironically a lot of people in India are Muslim and do practice with a Anti- Modern hardcopy of the Quran when it comes to religion. The Indians also write the Quran out in Arabic in some schools to have the connection to their faith rather than using modern scripture on devices.
