During the major period of change that we often call the "Renaissance", we associate the term with the growth of the "peoples'" equality. Yes, people began being recognized for their art, and humanists could write books that the public could read due to the invention of the press, but women rarely benefited from this. Women still struggled with illiteracy, their education was rarely considered a priority in their households. During the Renaissance, women were sexually suppressed, becoming ornaments for their husbands, their chastity was a requirement while their significant other's chastity was flexible. As Castiglione, a notable Renaissance writer, wrote, a woman should make herself look desirable and little else. During the Renaissance, most women continued to be oppressed as men gained more individual freedom.

Christian Humanism was period of biblical rediscovery. Christian humanists emphasized the importance of literacy and the availability of the bible, to be able to fully commit to Christianity. Christian humanists, like Erasmus, urged and encourage the study of of all society in literacy. Increased literacy would allow for more Christian study and would allow for the people to immerse themselves more fully in Christian culture.

Christian humanism shaped the Renaissance by still incorporating humanist ideals but compiling those ideals with the teachings of Jesus. This majorly impacted the Northern Renaissance in the style of art. I have noticed that the art still portrays the emphasis of human glory but it does not emphasize it before it glorifies Jesus. Also in the educational aspect rather than just teaching basic classes such as math and reading the teachers incorporate the social teachings of Jesus and other biblical materials.

I think that women did have a Renaissance but only the upper-class women did. The upper class women had a Renaissance because they were taught to read and be literate. Also they were very wealthy so they would have many paintings of themselves. The peasant women were far from having these luxuries. The peasant women were not literate and pretty much forced to stay in their homes. They were socially and sexually suppressed by the men of the Renaissance. As Joan Kelly stated they were trapped in their homes. So overall I would say that the upper class women had a Renaissance.
