Forest school has principles that were agreed by UK forest school in 2011 that they follow to help the children develop the first principle is that forests schools in a long process and you have to take regular trips to the woods so you could do this by going at least one a week so then the children are going to get use to it and develop on their development and skills. you will be able to notice if they are improving by doing observations on the children. The next principle is that it needs to take place in the woodland or a natural environment that has trees so the children are learning about the outside world, it takes place in a woodland area so they have plenty of space and will be able to explore and discover the different things that are in the environment and the children will be able to build a relationships up with the outdoors and this will help them to develop long term.

Forest Schools objective is to boost the holistic development of children so this means that will they are out in the woods they will be doing activities that help them develop in all areas these areas are physical, cognitive, language, emotional, social and they children's spiritual aspects. when you are doing activities that support the child's holistic development you are letting them be independent and creative. Another principle is allow the children to take supported risks, the risks that the children are making this is going to motivate them and give them positive attitudes and interest to keep wanting to go back to the woods as they enjoyed it so much. the children will be making risk as they will have tools and in same cases they will make a fire but they will only use this if they think the children will be sensible to use them and they will do this by doing a baseline risk assessment.

Another principles of forest schools are the forest school is run by qualified forest school professionals these professionals will need as least a level three forest school qualification. They will need to be a high level of staff to child ratios in case on of the children get seriously hurt. when you are taking the children to the woods you need to make sure that you are up to date with the first aid training. Also another principle they have is to use a wide range of different processes to create an area for development and learning, you can do this by being able to acknowledge the interests and needs of the children.
The World Outside (2017)

When children are in the forest there are going to benefit form going as it is going to help their confidence, social skills and their communication skills. it is going to help them gain confidence as when they are out in the forest they are given time, freedom and space so by doing this you are allowing them to gain independence and letting them develop at their own rate. children will develop their social skills as some of the activities and tasks will involve taking it in turns or helping the other children for example when they are using tools as they can work together in a group and this is going to build and strengthen relationships. Children will be developing their communication skills as they will be talking to the other children and using different words and this can have a positive impact on their child's self esteem.
