Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington, DE - almost five years in(carcerated) now.  (HAHA!)  

I have seven years prior experience teaching at Delcastle (a vocational-technical school, also in Wilmington), as well as five summers teaching for Upward Bound program at DelTech (Wilmington).

Despite all my teaching employment in Delaware, I grew up northeastern Pennsylvania and attended Bloomsburg University, obtaining my degree in Secondary Education/Mathematics.  I recently completed my masters at WilmU, and, like the rest of you, am continuing my education.

My name is Melissa Herder, I am a Special Education teacher in Camden, NJ. I am excited to be teaching in the district where I was educated as a child. I feel like it is my duty to give back to my community and help the students realize their potential. I want students to realize that they can excel in education, despite the odds stacked against them. I am actually in my second year of the program here at WilmU, I had to repeat this class because I did not realize that when a teacher gives you the courtesy of an incomplete grade that you have to submit the work before the end of the next session.
