H- During this time, the indentured servants, who came to the America from England to work as laborers for the tobacco plantation under a contract, were struggling to work as labors and fight as the Powhatan Indians attacked their owners' lands at the same time. This also led to the royal government taking over this struggling colony.
I- Richard Frethorne (the author) wrote this letter to his parents for them to know the situation he's going through as an indentured servant working at Martin's Hundred, which is a plantation near Jamestown.
P- This document is a letter written to inform the author's parents of how bad the environment is in the New World with the Native Americans attack, lack of food, etc. The author wrote this letter in order to let his parents know how grateful they were to him (serving him the amount of food for every meal that he eats in a week in New England) and wishes for them to send a letter also (he also describes how he's doing and what he's going through in the letter).
P- Richard Frethorne (the author) is a guy from England who came to the New World as an indentured servant. Although looking for wealth (gold) and glory initially, the author writes about the struggles that he's faced in the New World instead. The author is trying to convey the message that it's better to live off as a normal person in England than as an indentured servant in the New World.

H - During the time Richard Frethorne was writing this letter, Virginia had started to exploit the cash crop of tobacco. This means that they needed a lot more cheap labor because of how hard it was to farm tobacco, which birthed the approach of indentured servants.

I - Richard Frethorne’s intended audience was his mother and father. Since his parents were the ones who contracted him into indentured servitude, he is more likely to exaggerate specific details to make living in the new world worse than it might have been (since he wants to go back to England).

P - The author’s purpose is to inform his parents of the suffering he’s going through, and beg them for anything he can sell to pay off his servitude. To thoroughly convince his parents to help him get out of the servitude he has to include all the terrible things being in the contract entails.

P - Frethorne’s point of view as an indentured servant explains the actual injustices going on in the plantations. He accounts the details of the horrific living conditions as a servant which others like the plantation owners would not entirely relate to or understand.

This work was difficult, and many indentured servants did not outlive their contracts due to starvation and exhaustion.
I - The author's intended audience was his parents back home in England. It is important to understand this because he was not trying to hide how difficult the life of an indentured servant was because he was writing to someone close to him.
P - The purpose of this document was to inform the author's parents about the conditions for indentured servants in Virginia, and he describes the misery he is enduring due to constant disease and hunger.
P - Considering that Richard Frethorne was an indentured servant on a plantation near Jamestown, it makes sense that he would give an accurate description of the hardships the workers went through as he experienced it firsthand.

H - At the time this letter was written, the Europeans that had moved to America were beginning to have very large farms that produce massive amounts of their crops. This meant there was a need for labor through indentured servants from Europe and slaves from Africa. The servants would come and work on the plantations in terrible conditions and work for many brutal hours on the farm.
I - The intended audience of this letter is the author, Richard Frethorne's parents who were at home in England. This is important because he wanted to accurately portray what was happening to him in America so that his parents would know the truth.
P - The purpose of the letter was to inform Frethorne's parents of the terrible conditions and hardships he faced as an indentured servant in America. It was also to convince his parents to send him either money or food from England.
P - Frethorne was an indentured servant on a plantation, so it can be assumed that what he wrote was an accurate description of his hardships, since he experienced them firsthand. He also shows the reality of the situation to people in England who might not have known how hard it really was.

H- During the 1600's, Europe's major nations began to colonize in the new world or the Americas. They did this for a number of reasons, but mostly to bring gold back the the "motherland". These people only wanted profits from there land and wouldn't work it themselves. This called for cheap labor. Which introduced Indentured Servants to the Americas. These people would pay their way to the new world and in exchange, they would do slave work for their masters. These people were paid horribly and were set "free" after their contract with their master was up.
I- The intended audience of this article was the parent of Richard Frethorn, an Indentured Servant.
P- The purpose of this letter to his parents was to tell them how horrible it was working in the new world. He wrote this to help his parents understand how awful he was feeling and how poorly treated he was. He also goes on to explain how life in England was much better than life on the New World.
P- The letter is written from Frethorne's point of view. Everything that he wrote came from his experiences he had in the New World.

H- In this time, the indentured servants were thought to have a good deal in coming to the Americas with free room and board, and do labor in return. It ended up not being quite as idealistic as it seemed when they ended up with horrible conditions, low pay, little food and cruel treatment. It was tough and demanding labor, very similar to slave work (which will turn out to be run by slaves soon at the time).
I- The intended audience was family back in England, and this made the person complain a little more than maybe necessary so they can pity him and send food and money.
P- The purpose of this document was to explain how horrible life was for this person to their family. They wanted their parents to send more food and money so life wasn't as rough as they described. The soul purpose was to complain and receive enough pity to benefit from it.
P- It was from the POV of Richard Frethorne who was an indentured servant in the New World, but originally from England.

Indentured Servitude worked by saying they could work for 5-7 years and than get their own plot of land, but the flaw in the idea is that most servants would die, so a lot of them never got to have the land that was promised, making it a pretty beneficial system for the land owners
I - The intended audience of the letter is Richard Frethorne's parents who still live in England, so maybe he lied a little to his parents to make them not worry about him
P - This documents purpose was to tell his parents how terrible it was living as an indentured servant in the New World.
P - The point of view is that of an indentured servant name Richard Frethorne who lived in the New World.
