The creative and compelling story written by Neil Gaiman combined with beautiful stop-motion animation makes for an unforgettable film.

The film I whole-heartedly recommend is Howl’s Moving Castle, because it is a beautifully animated movie by Studio Ghibli, and is suitable for everyone. It has an interesting storyline, since the common theme of saving the world is more of a subplot in this movie. The characters are very likable and the main character has a nice twist to her. The side-characters are not only people, too, I didn't think I'd get this attached to a scarecrow.

Throughout the movie we are surrounded by stunningly animated nature scenes, which together with the subtle yet perfectly fitting soundtrack creates a sense of calmness.

This film tells the story about Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew who on their education day spend a platonic night together. During the next 18 years, on the same date 15th July, we follow their friendship that later becomes romantic. It sort of tells their story in a rom-com manner, as its located in Edinburgh, London and Paris which can be interpret as "the city of love".
The film shows that even during the saddest parts, there could be good moments although the progress towards happiness takes time which makes your heart explode but.... every single love story ends in death.
To summarise, life makes it rather easier for us to stop in the middle.
I have watched this movie plenty of times and each time I sit in my own puddle of tears reconciling my existence. I recommend this move for those rom-com fanatics!!!! and also the soundtrack to this film is what makes it so hard to watch cause its so gripping. Have a tissue-box beside you or else you will end up like me.

David Fincher does a wonderful job at crafting a meticulous and suspenseful yet action pact film. As the film slowly reveals more twists and turns the viewer is sitting on the edge of their seat, biting their fingernails. Without having to show us the most gruesome details Fincher makes us shiver as we imagine them (This is a talent that most filmmakers/directors lack when making thrillers/horror films etc.). It makes us reflect on how our morals and surroundings affect our actions.

(I also want to mention that everyone should go watch all of Finchers films: such as "Fightclub", "Gone Girl" and "The Social Network")

/Xenia

It's a thriller featuring many notorious names: martin scorsese behind directing and Matt Damon and Leonardio Decaprio as the leads - starring moles, in the police department as well as the irish mob. I've watched this film like seven times already and great shots combined with brilliant script and a gripping story makes it a saluting favorite. Throw in some scorsese's featuring cynicism and serve cold or warm. /rita

The film I whole-heartedly recommend is "The Lure" (or the original title, "Corki Dancingu") by Agnieszka Smoczynska. I believe it is a good movie to see, mostly because of the controversial themes in it, and the furore it sparked in Poland. It is a horror film, as well as a musical, and if you look closely, it could even be a bit comedic. The story follows two mermaids, sisters, who wash up on shore in Warsaw, later getting employed at a stripclub of sorts. The main plot looks at how one of the sisters falls in love with a human man, and it explores the possibility of her overcoming her nature of bloodthirst and murder, to be with her human lover. It contains heartbreak, gore, nudity and fantasy, as well as more things highly upsetting to the conservative country of Poland. The film was heavily censored at first. It wasn't shown in cinemas for a while, and the cover art had to be changed and edited multiple times to be able to be sold in stores. The film is beautifully made, yet I believe that the commentary on the Polish culture and government being strictly conservative is almost even better.
-julia

Emotionally Haunting------- Will Hunting, written by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck (who both play leading roles), and directed by one of my personal favourites- Gus Van Sant, holds a special place in my heart. Set in a working class area near Boston, the story follows Will, caretaker at MIT college and the smartest person on campus. With a beautiful setting, perfect soundtrack, spot on casting and an amazing angle on how to portray childhood and trauma, the movie provides a whirlwind of emotions and sucks the viewer in from start to finish.

The film I whole-heartedly recommend is Parasite, because it captures the differences in social class in a tremendous way which is both funny and tragic. The movie is very unpredictable, but watching it a second time you see foreshadowing thanks to intricate details. To top it all off, the cinematography and visuals are extremely captivating.

/ Ines

The film I whole-heartedly recommend is The Glass Castle, because it is a very fascinating movie based on a true story. It is a memoir from the author Jeanette Walls who wrote the book herself. It is the story of a dysfunctional but loyal family.

I truly recommend the film "girl interrupted". It brings out a very important subject and teaches awareness. This film highlights the reason why you shouldn't romanticize mental illness and after watching it that should be a matter of course.
/Stella

...is Parasite, because of its unbelievable plot twist in the middle of the movie. I enjoy how the director creates a balance between comedy and thriller. However, I believe the creator explains it best:” a comedy without clowns, a tragedy without villains”.

/Fiona

The film I whole-heartedly recommend is the whole Saw-series because they are thrilling. These films are brutal and it’s a lot of blood and murders. I love that the whole series is like a puzzle/game (haha) for the viewer to solve which is a result of all the films being connected.

The film that I recommend is “Stalker” by Andrei Tarkovsky. Stalker is a piece of art-cinema based on the novel “Roadside Picnic”, each scene is packed with atmosphere. It’s philosophical, mysterious and truly beautiful. It steers away from many traditional forms of filmmaking, and creates an experience that has lasted with me years after I first watched it. I know that we were only supposed to write three sentences, but the soundtrack composed by Edward Artimiev is also beyond fantastic.

//Paul
