In the three poems from the textbook, the author uses several, similar literary tools to develop the Anglo-Saxons theme of loneliness. For example, in the poem "The Wanderer" written by Charles W. Kennedy, ur character was exiled he was describing the feeling of being alone. Imagery would show us that he describes that there is a dark cast that is surrounding his soul and how alone and heartbroken he feels. The mood would convey how our character feels a desolate feeling throughout the poem and that he's upset about his exile. The tools the author uses to convey this theme is a kenning. Our character is feeling a "Carnage of Weapons" which he's talking about war, his emotions represent war and what he's feeling in the poem. The next example that conveys his emotion is the alliteration, there are repeats of an (ith) at the end of each preposition and it can say how his emotions are always coming and how he's feeling throughout our poem.

In the three poems from the textbook, the authors use several literary tools to develop the Anglo Saxon theme of loneliness. For example, in the poem, "The Wife's Lament" translated by Ann Stanton, the theme of loneliness is obviously conveyed. Through the situation where the wife is forced to leave the community, the audience is able to truly feel the sense of lonliness that is felt by the exiled wife. The tool that the author uses to convey this them is a kenning. In the third stanza, the translator states, "For this my heart grieves; that I should find the man well matched to me hard of fortune mournful of mind...". In this line from the poem, the repeated "m" sound in the words, "man, mournful of mind, me" seem to convey a sense of sadness and isolation. This kenning certainly seems to foster a keen sense of loneliness.

In the three poems from the textbook, the author uses several similar literacy tools to develop the Anglo Saxon theme of loneliness. In "The Seafarer" translated by Burton Raffel, the guy felt lonely and he wanted to go home. The weather was freezing, the waves were powerful and he was alone. An image support this is that "Of smashing surf when I sweated in the cold of an anxious watch, perched in the bow. As it dashed under cliffs, My feet were cast in icy bands, bound with frost." This example of imagery helps to support the theme of loneliness by explaining what it was like there. The audience is able to picture the narrator, and see the loneliness he's going through. As the reader, you're able to understand the hardship the narrator has to go through, alone at sea, because of how the author uses imagery. Thus, with using imagery, the author helps their audience understand the Anglo Saxon theme, loneliness.

In all three of the Anglo-Saxon poems, the authors used a theme to describe very heartfelt stories, usually that of the uncertainty of life. In the story, "The Seafarer", translated by Burton Raffel, the main character was uncertain about his own life, as he had no help and was left in very troublesome trials. "The see took me, swept me back and forth in sorrow and fear and pain."
The quote from the poem describes his feelings and his fear of dying out at sea, especially with no one to help him.

To begin, In the poem "Seafarer" written by the author, Burton Raffel tells us the short story of fear and loneliness. In the poem the author describes the characters loneliness at the sea but still loves it. For example, " With frozen chains, and hardships ground around my heart. Hunger tore at my sea-weary soul". The fear of being scared of whats coming next. It takes everything out of him. The story shows through his words the fighting with himself, with showing us imagery by the meaning of the words of deep emotions. The feelings he feels of being alone and isolation of anyone else sharing the same emotions. The mood is full of strong feelings and the way of his life at sea. These, in conclusion helps us, the audience, get the real image in our heads of the true emotions of the main character.
