  • Only offer 3 digital resources per unit, to make sure students are not overwhelmed with learning too many new systems
Changes to Curriculum: 
  • Using the standards flagging system in Atlas to clearly mark standards that are not being covered, so they can ensure coverage of those standards next year.
Questions they have had: 
  • Initial concerns about standards based instruction right away - but the models have been clear and supportive for teachers
  • Took a few days for teachers to onboard into the system

  • 4 days of direct instruction, based on age level with both synchronous & asynchronous earning
    • 45 minute periods for higher grade levels
    • Includes both enrichment, synchronous & asynchronous
  • Monday is a prep day for teachers, and students are expected to complete assignments on their own during that day
    • Students work on: journals, family activities, free choice lesson, pre-recorded videos, workout video, math and language arts lesson (all of these are available Friday so students can work on it over the weekend)
  • Adding in a work day every week ensures teachers are supportive and the quality of education is strong

  • - Brief, regular, structured meetings between supervisors & supervises
  • Rationale: 
    • Builds relationship, provides feedback, minimizes disruptions since there is consistent communication

Strategies to supporting creativity during this time: 
  • "Let them be creative within the boundaries of your expectations"
  • Change the narrative that this is not "regular" school
  • Support teachers in doing their best, not striving for perfection
  • Be a guest in a class
  • Review teacher websites / online learning portal and send accolades
Moving the mindset from "short term frenzy" to longer term sustainability: 
  • Encourage them to stay the course, now that the initial startup is completed
  • Encourage growth mindset - help them to identify areas they are growing
  • School mission: to know, to love, to prepare
    • Keep your school mission at the heart of the work. That should not change during this time, although the way we meet that mission may
Weekly Google form/survey to families so they can provide feedback on how the learning is going at home. Use this to adjust the way they are scheduling instruction and amount of instruction that is taking place.
Some questions include:
  • Who is your teacher?
  • How is the work load?
    • "Just right" "hard time"
  • How is the teacher instruction?
  • Time on Zoom with teachers?
  • Other comments / concerns? 
  • Would like direct follow-up concerning...
Send evening emails to families
  • Includes information
  • Includes supportive language
  • Family emotional support
Moving to a 4 day week of instruction with Friday as a "catch up" day for students and families.

These schedule is for Monday to Friday and shared 1 week before.  The schedule carries information about the subject, the group of students, the Lead teacher and the Support teacher names, and link to G-meet where the session is to be held. These sessions at times could be assessments/assignments but still part of schedule so it allows students feel the same school environment. Teachers also report the count of students present in the session and submitted the assignments, and assess the assignments/assessments to provide annotated as well as general feedback.
