In the book 1776 the author writes about one of the most important years in the revolutionary war. The book has the perspective of George Washington and the men he commanded in the battles they lost and the major ones they won. This book follows the battles of the American Revolution instead of following the Congress when they are developing ideas of freedom.

In the book 1776 the person that changed the most from the beginning to the end of the book was George Washington. In chapter one of the book George Washington was an English colonial, but by the end of the book he became a free American. “It was not difficult to distinguish him from all the others. His personal appearance is truly noble and majestic, being tall and well-proportioned (p. 42).” George Washington was showed noble after turning the tide on the war in Saratoga.

If the book had one more chapter, it would be about the men after the war. George Washington and General Lee’s life after the war.”Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter – to-morrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther… And one fine morning – So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.(p.152)” If the book talked about what happened after the war the reader would have a better understanding of who these people are.
