This study explores the multilingual approach in classrooms, emphasizing the importance of respecting children’s mother tongues to enhance their comprehension and ensure they do not feel marginalized.

The report examines the challenges children face during conventional English teaching methods (i.e., teaching English through English). The findings indicate that although children had some prior knowledge, they remained hesitant and passive due to language barriers.

The primary aim of this study is to promote the use of mother tongue support as a tool to build children’s confidence while learning English. However, this approach does not focus solely on promoting mother tongues. Instead, it encourages the strategic use of keywords, hints, and gestures to facilitate effective English language learning.

After identifying certain challenges, the report suggests solutions such as engaging vocabulary games like Shiritori and the Bottle Game, student-led discussions (with language choice as an option), and open-ended questions. These activities aim to make learning more enjoyable and interactive.

Furthermore, the study highlights that when children feel included and supported in their language learning journey, they become more confident, ask more questions, and actively participate — indicating genuine learning.

Ultimately, this study underscores the need for a multilingual approach in every classroom to ensure effective learning in a linguistically diverse country like ours.
