James had ran across the pacific, wanting new places to map. He also had found new Zealand and the Great Barrier Reef, and decided to map those places. After that James decided to keep on discovering, and kept on mapping the pacific. 
#2 James explored the pacific ocean and a part of North America. He became famous for this and his mapping of the Pacific. And James wanted that glory. The reason why he liked having glory is because he wanted to be known. When James discovered the Great Barrier Reef and New Zealand, he had charted them. This action affected maps, because he now has evidence that he was the European to have an accurate map of the Pacific ocean.  It also affected maps by showing that these places have already been discovered. 
2.James cook had the idea to set off 3 voyages. His 3 voyages helped get a picture of the pacific. This affected maps and land because, if he hadn't created the 3 voyages, the pacific wouldn't have been discovered that way. 
3. When James had his 2nd voyage he discovered more of the Pacific and ran across new islands. One new island James discovered was Fiji, and started to expand his discoveries by mapping more and more. In one part of the  article  it tells that when James reached New Zealand he described the people there as " Noble, ingenious, artistic, brave, open, but warlike people.” This is primary becasue it is James cooks exact words and how he viewed the people. Another part of the article it tells that the Pacific people viewed James cook as "Powerful and Honest." This is secondary because this how other people viewed James. After charting these places he created a map. With proof of his map he became the first european to map out the pacific. This had impacted maps because he now has evidence of the Pacific places he  discovered. James basically took the pacific and made into a map. This also affected expansion, because the more he maped, the more maps needed to be expended . 
Left behind: When James found New Zealand, he charted every detail, except he left out one little aspect on his map, the Maori. One effect of colonization is that it would affect the land, and people living on it. It could be both positive & negative. The negative side  is that some people would be kicked off the land. This could happen because they may have had too many people on land, or the explorer who colonized it didn’t like the people.  Or just that they wanted to make the land landless. This is negative because people had nowhere to live. And that’s a major change to the land. 
2. Another effect of colonization is goods can be traded, and or destroyed that were on the land. This is a negative effect because goods were no longer found on the land, unless the explorer wanted to keep the goods. 
3. The last effect is diseases.  If the explorer, or person who colonized it didn’t mind others on the land, disease can spread. This would a negative affect.
