Why asking for help is important

First, we must get into why people don't ask for help in the first place. This behavior is classified as "The Self-Sufficiency Syndrome" as classified by Peggy Collins (13). People are told from a young age that the best person to do something is yourself. That sticks with people, making them not ask for help. When an opportunity arises to ask for help, you should use the ACT formula, which is asking yourself what you are Afraid of, letting go of the feeling that you need to Control everything, and learning to Trust yourself (14). Getting help will help you branch out your connections, and will also make life alot easier.

Getting in the mindset of helping others can be difficult, as most people tend to think about themselves. You can ask what you can do to help, and by offering before they ask will let them know you care about them (14). Just make a habit of doing that will just make helping others second nature.

When I did taekwondo in my earlier years, I had to make the decision to ask for help figuring out how to break boards, which I asked my instructor for help and once I did that it finally clicked and I could understand it!
