Gene therapy is defined as the transplantation of normal genes into cells to replace missing or defective genes in order to correct genetic disorders. Gene therapy is a way to treat genetic diseases by taking out a gene and inserting a healthy, normal gene. During gene therapy, it requires that a normal gene would be cloned in order to insert it into another DNA sequence.
PROS
-It replaces defective cells or genes, resulting in genetic diseases
-Can help to eradicate diseases like Alzheimer's or Huntington's.
CONS
-It modifies human capabilities
-It could damage the human gene pool
-If there is an error, it could result in severe disorders
SOURCE
http://occupytheory.org/list-of-pros-and-cons-of-gene-therapy/

Bioremediation is the process of using microorganisms and fungi to clean the environment. Bioremediation is important because it provides natural mechanisms to remove contaminants from the environment. They are using biotechnology to produce microorganisms with the ability to digest chemicals more efficiently.
PROS
-Natural process
-Cost effective
-Toxic chemicals are removed from the environment
CONS
-Slow
-Heavy metals aren't removed
-Doesn't remove all quantities of contaminants
SOURCE
https://prezi.com/cpmnijcq-o7b/bioremediation/

Biotechnology has been used for food production for a long time. Fermentation, a form of biotechnology, has been used for wine, beer, and bread. Biotechnology and selective breeding have been used to create the different types of rice, corn, and wheat. They are also using recombinant DNA to produce food with traits that weren't natural, like inserting a trait from a fish into a strawberry to make it frost resistant.
PROS
-Better qualities and taste
-More resistant to diseases
-Nutrition benefits
CONS
-Some environmental damage
-No economic value
-Growth in allergic reactions
SOURCE
http://healthresearchfunding.org/pros-cons-genetically-modified-foods/
VIDEO

Modern forensics use DNA fingerprints to solve cases. They find the DNA in samples of blood, hair, saliva, bone, tissue, and semen. Because everyone has a different DNA fingerprint, and if they had multiple suspects, they would be able to identify them based off of the matching DNA fingerprint.
PROS
-Helps to exonerate the innocent
-Helps to identify individuals
CONS
-Inconsistent Practices
-Privacy Concerns
SOURCE
http://biotechlearn.org.nz/focus_stories/forensics
VIDEO
