My name is Michelle Claybrook and I was born in Sylacauga, Alabama but, have lived in Nashville all my life, I originally attended Tennessee State University in the fall of 1987 for one semester. Upon returning home for the winter break and holiday's, I found out that I was pregnant, not only was I pregnant, I was almost 4 months pregnant and I wasn't showing nor had I been sick. After realizing that I wasn't returning to school in January of 1988,  as my son was born in February of 1988, I at least thought I would go back to school when he started kindergarten. Life happened and three years later I had my second child, a daughter in 1991. By this time school was the furthest thing from my mind, as I was a single mother of two small children and working a full time job.  A year later I met a man, who is now my husband of 26 years. We had our first son together in 1997, when my daughter was seven years old. School still was not in the picture at all. Four months after having my youngest son, I returned to the work force, as I was put on bed rest during the pregnancy for high blood pressure. In 1998 I obtained a job at a law firm in the accounting department, doing cash receipts posting payments. While working in the accounting department for 23 and a half years, and advancing within the accounting  department to become the Billing Manager without a degree was truly a blessing. When I resigned after 23 and a half years of employment at the same firm. I knew I would need a degree to get compensated my worth in my next endeavor. Although, I have a been performing all types of accounting functions for years. That ignited the thought of school in my mind. I took a year off from work in 2019 and enrolled as a full time student in the spring of 2020, to not only get paid well, but to finish what I started.  Upon enrolling to registering for classes, I am excited about this new chapter in my life as a college student, with a full time job at a new firm, as the Billing Manager.  I am a Junior seeking my undergraduate degree in Accounting in which to  pursue my aspiration of being a CPA.
