Eviromental and Public Health Problems in our World Today.

Enviromental and Public Health Problems are still a problem in our world today. The interactions between human health and the enviromental risks have been proven to impact human health. Today, poor countries like Nigeria, Malawi, South Sudan... do not have access to medicines, clean water, and so on. Like today, only the wealthy Roman citizens got clean water into their homes, medicines, ect. Our Enviroment is changing as well. Cutting so many trees, it endangers species and our clean air. Polluting the earth can bring new diseases and a new wave of deaths. According to google, "Environmental health is a key part of any comprehensive public health system. It works to advance polices and programs to reduce chemical and other environmental exposures such as in air, water, soil and food to protect people and provide communities with healthier environments." Countries like New Zealand, Norway, Denmark are making changes that helps the environment. Without a healthy environment, health issues will rise.

The Problem of Enviromental and Public Health in rome and the downfall

The problem of enviromental and public health was one of the reasons why it led to the downfall of rome. The public and enviromental health played a great part of the downfall, from diseases to income inequality, to contruction. First, Rome was built in a low-lying area, meaning that it was prone to outbreaks of malaria. This was most likely due to Romes over-devlopment, According to the article,

The Health Risks of Living in Ancient Rome, it states that "As Rome grew, the vast forests surrounding the city were cut down. Deforestation increased runoff, which contributed to more frequent, severe floods—and more standing water." Due to the floods and standing water, puddles were left behind, creating a perfect oppertunity for mosqitous to breed and spread maleria, creating an epidemic which made Rome uninhabital. Second, The article, The Health Risks Of Living In Rome, explains that "Comparing skeletal remains from cemeteries in Roman Britain, researchers found that urban residents were far healthier than their rural counterparts" This shows that those who were residents were living a longer life, and had dental care, but those who were rural counterparts, lived a shorter life and had no dental care at all. Lastly, road contruction projects which destroyed the wild life, made the land slowly die and turn into swamps and marshes. The article, The health Risks of Living In Rome, claims that, "Coupled with road construction projects that disrupted the region’s hydrology, deforestation turned the Pontine Fields, south of the city, into the Pontine Marshes." In conclusion, the problem of enviromental and public health was one of the reasons why the downfall of rome happened.

The problem of environmental problems most relates with SDG Climate Action because it talks about climate change, which is one of the main reason we have environmental problems.
Climate change affects economy, people, communities, and nations. According to a youtube video called Climate Action, it states: "Climate change is now affecting every country on every continent. It is disrupting national economies and affecting lives, costing people, communities and countries dearly today and even more tomorrow. Weather patterns are changing, sea levels are rising, weather events are becoming more extreme and greenhouse gas emissions are now at their highest levels in history."Without action, the world’s average surface temperature is likely to surpass 3 degrees centigrade this century.

SDG: Good Health

The problem of Public Health in Rome most relates with SDG #3, this is because they both talk about the public health of people, which is one of the reasons why Rome had a downfall. Back then, those who didn't live in the city didn't have proper health care and lived a shorter life. Many had died from malaria to parasites. These problems that were in Rome are still here to this day. We are still suffering from malaria and new diseases, etc. Some people can't get proper care for health problems due to not being able to afford it. This is creating greater problems and it needs to be changed. From the video, "Understand Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being (Secondary)" states that, "lack of clean running water can lead to spreading the communicable diseases like malaria, diarrhea, and flu- Some of the leading causes of death in developing countries." This shows that people who don't have access to clean running water can get deadly diseases and die. This shows that Rome is most similar to SDG #3.
