Estonia, officially the Republic of Estonia, is a country in Northern Europe. It is bordered on the north by the Gulf of Finland opposite Finland, on the west by the Baltic Sea opposite Sweden, on the south by Latvia, on the east by Lake Peipsi and Russia. The territory of Estonia consists of the continents, the large islands of Saaremaa and Hiiumaa and more than 2,200 other islands and islets on the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea with a total area of 45,339 km2. Tallinn is the capital of Estonia. Estonian is the official language of Estonia.
The population of Estonia is 1.3 million people. Estonia is a member of the European Union, the Eurozone, the OECD, the Schengen area, NATO and the UN Security Council.

Tallinn is the most populous, primate and capital of Estonia. Located in a bay in the north of Estonia, on the shore of the Gulf of Finland of the Baltic Sea. Tallinn has a population of 444,532 people (as of 2021) and administratively belongs to the Harju maakond (county). Tallinn is the main financial, industrial and cultural center of Estonia. From the 13th century until the first half of the 20th century Tallinn was known in most of the world by variants of its other historical name Reval. Tallinn has won the European Commission's European Green Capital 2023 Award.
