The man in the video is looking for the police officer that he shot and is trying to apologize for shooting him. He is hoping that this will bring both parties closure and will help him move on in life because he is different now. He asks his siblings if they believe it is his childhood's fault for the way he turned out. His parents passed away when he was young and his siblings believe that was not the reason he was a bad kid they believe that everyone reacts differently to different things. His siblings say that his crime influenced him in a good way. The officer did not want to meet with him because he felt that in the guy's rap career he was glorifying guns and drugs which did not reflect that he was doing better. The officer also said that his wife had passed away 2 years after the shooting.

Both his parents perished when he was 15 years old and he was separated from his siblings as he was placed in foster homes which altered his behavior since he did not have the support he needed. The police officer said his wife died 2 years after the shooting as it impacted her greatly. The ex police officer wished the offender would've served a greater sentence, and that his music would not contain as much drugs or weapons in the lyrics. The offender stated that he felt worse knowing that the officers wife died shortly after the shooting and felt a greater amount of blame. He apologized and admitted that his apology was not enough to cover for the damage he caused.

A real trapper in the streets. Constant repeat offender. June 27th, 2006. Gang war; jumps out car shoots at gang member and cops watching him began to pursue and he shoots back and hits the officer. This offender is a normal man caught in a lifestyle and attempting to get out. He has had a change of heart. The fact he has been able to quit this lifestyle shows that he had a choice the whole time. His life has good influences and bad influences on his other family. Officer does not want to revisit that period of his life. Wife died after police officer was shot. Consistent glorifying guns in a bad manner as well as being in gangs. Wants officer to know that he wasn’t to blame for that crime.

He realizes who he was and how he acted back then from that incident and how he has tried and is really trying to learn from it. As for the victim, it is a hard reality to deal with and acceptable to try to move past something that has affected him so greatly.

A London man said he shot the police officer out of a warning for him not to come too close. The man served 8 years in prison, I believe he took accountability and learned from his mistakes because he stated that he was not that person anymore. He received parole from the shooting after he got out of prison. His main achievement was to make sure that the police officer and his family get the closure they need. The harm done to the police officer was that he suffers from depression from the traumatic event. After he got out of jail his family looks at him differently because they believe he is capable of harming someone again. The officer did not want to revisit the traumatic event. The police officer wishes he would have handled things differently to prevent him from getting shot. The shooting had a major impact on the officer's wife which caused her to die 2 years later. The officer feels like the sentencing was not fair he wish the boy got a longer sentence. The officer believes the boy did not show remorse for the shooting because in his song he gloried guns. The officer would like to meet the boy in the future if he changes the lyrics of his music.

He looks on his past life and he wants to move on from it but he needs to talk with the officer he shot. He learns the officer is no longer a cop and he feels responsible for it. He then meets with his siblings and gets their opinions on what happened. He then talks with his aunt and uncle who he lived with prior to the shooting.

Dean is a very interesting person because not many people look to figure out what causes them to commit or act in certain manners. It can be a very difficult path to go down because it brings back past traumas. He do this cause he was curious about why he went down a life a crime and ended up shooting a police officer.
With this is looked into his up bringing and major changes or events that occurred.
His mother and father died by the age of 10.
His aunt and uncle saw this change when his father died.
His siblings were pretty understanding but also picked their career paths in order to understand and grasp their brother's action.
He wanted to talk to the police officer and apologize. However, the police officer did not want to engage in the restorative justice process, because he did not see any evidence of change in Dean and the lyrics he created in his rap career. Though he did commit the crime against the police officer and he did not want to see Dean un till he saw he change, he did wish him well.

Stana was able to serve his time and realize that what he did to the policeman was wrong. When Stana reflects on the shooting and the effect it had on the victim, he recoils in regret and sorrow. Stana wants to connect with the policeman he shot to receive closure for himself and the officer. This is an example of victor-offender mediation, if he were able to meet with the officer he turned into his victim. The officer declined to meet him due to not wanting to to revisit that period in his life. The officer did pass soon his dissatisfaction for the justice system in the sentencing of him and after his incarceration. Stana felt worse after hearing the passing of his wife two years later, and the fact his lyrics did not portray a better message.

Since this took place, the man had gone through restoration programs which led him on a journey to find the man he shot and apologize. The young man had completed his sentencing, but also was able to be held accountable, reflect, and ultimately move past the life he previously lived ie. crime. The man had explained that his childhood was bad due to the death of his mother at a young age, followed by the death of his father not long after. These occurrences led him to make the decision to shoot the officer.

In 2006 Dean who goes by "Stana" shot an officer and served him IPP and 6 years, however he served 8 years. In the video you found out that at a young age Deans parents both died 10 months apart and he didn't really have a stable upbringing. He talks about how his childhood may have affected his current life decisions. He created music normalizing the violence in the community and the officer saw it and that was a reason he did not want to talk to Dean. Later in the video Dean finds out that the officers' wife died two months after the trial and that makes him feel guilty.

It seemed more like trying to look better on the outside than truly wanting to improve. He seemed to be more focused on justifying his actions than anything. I think he was remorseful but not on a deeper or more genuine level. When the victim responded saying there was no change in his music or message since what happened, and that he was still normalizing violence, it really seemed to be the most honest reflection of the man's character: more outwardly apologetic than truly genuine.

Concept of Restorative Justice Reflection
Effects for Offender:
The offender served his time and yet still received hate and backlash for his offense. He was seen as a risk to the public, as the same man and criminal he was before prison. He stated that he was not that same person anymore and wished to move on and do better with his life and do better for his children and family. He was still being watched and received less human rights than other people. I believed that he learned through his mistakes and genuinely wants to be a productive member of society.
Effects for Victim:
The victim seems to still have some traumatic effects from the incident. When asked if he would meet with the offender, the victim said that he was not ready to revisit that time in his life. He was not satisfied with the offender's sentencing and believed that he should have been punished more through the justice system rather than restorative justice. He wished the offender will and hoped to see him benefitting society and grow as a person and develop better values and beliefs.

I think the offender and victim still need time to process the event and grow individually. After which they would be able to come together and explain their own perspectives and understand each other.

Find a program that you want to look at regarding restorative justice
The program that I want to look at is a restorative justice program that is in Washington State and it deals with teens in court using restorative justice versus just the traditional court processing
https://www.wsipp.wa.gov/BenefitCost/Program/970

Post the details and the costs and benefits of that program
Targets kids with low-level or misdemeanor charges that also agree to a hearing of their peers

The benefit to this is it gives the kid that committed the offense a second chance because usually, the teen courts give out sentences like community service or letters of apology so it is beneficial to the kid because they don't face time in juvie usually. Additionally, a benefit is that a kid can come back after they have gone through it and play a role in the teen court after they have shown that they have grown from it.

The costs of this are that it does cost money even though the kids are volunteers it is supervised by a Judge to make sure proper procedure is followed and that costs money as well as the courtroom along with other costs as well.

This program was a form of conferencing with the community by restoring justice. The benefits to this is that the community is able to solve situations by interaction and people come together to come up with a plan to reduce harm in the community. The costs to this is that this program may not be effective to some people and victims may not want to be part of the conference.

In the video, the guy explained how he shot and killed his best friend. He then decided he wanted to change and make a difference and prevent others from making the same choices he did. He entered the program we often know as scared straight, to try and teach juveniles that they have a choice to change for the better. One thing that stood out to me the most was that he now doesn't commit crime because of the fact that he would get caught, he doesn't do it because he knows that it isn't the right thing to do. This shows that he has truly learned and is remorseful for what he has done in the past.

One of the key factors he mentioned is crime is not on one single person. From my perspective, I believe he was saying to commit a crime it takes two people or multiple people to be involved in a crime. When he transferred to another prison to join a restorative justice program, I believe he took accountability because he wanted to better himself and to show youth's that choice you make can have a impact on your life. By him making a song for young kids and other people that inspired them to make the right choices.

He was a drug addict through his young days as a kid up til his adult life. He accidentally murdered his best friend while shooting randomly. He wanted to give back to his friend by going out to communities to encourage them to do better and to not go down any similar route. This life lesson of his completely changed him for the better and that's how it represents restorative justice.

He wanted to help everyone to see that they don't need to use anger or force we just need to realize our mistakes. He spoke about a girl in Canada wanting to leave a gang, he let her know that she didn't need to kill the people she hated but to let the path go through. Overall, his path was just to help those in need to realize that crime is not needed to make a statement especially among the younger generation.

The man giving the speech went through a traumatic event, which involved killing his best friend on accident. This was during a time in his life when he was headed down a bad road. He learned from this event and wanted to do his best to give back to the community and turn his life around. This is exactly what restorative justice aims to do, give criminals a chance to accept responsibility, learn from their mistakes, and become a better person. Restorative justice not only benefits the offender, but also the victim and the community.

This was a TED talk about an experience that the speaker had gone through. Unfortunately, he had accidentally shot and killed his best friend and went to jail because of that. While in jail he had realized what he had done and that he wanted to help other people not make the same mistakes that he did. So, he decided to start volunteering in the jail that informs kids about jail so that they hopefully won't end up there before it is too late. He wanted to show people the truth so he is doing things like TED along with many others to spread awareness to help prevent other people from making the same mistakes he did. He also made a song while in jail to spread awareness and bettering himself he was able to do this and that shows that you can do it to these young kids that think that they have no other option besides crime. He has accepted what he did and now he is trying to better himself and help others through many different avenues.

There was a prison sentence being served for the death of a police officer, and the suspect was known to be a danger to society. There was big talk about utilizing restorative justice as a solution rather than just a jail sentence. An officer did not feel as though there was enough of a will to learn from his mistakes and make the active choice to get better.

There was a lot of remorse that was observed from this video, even though the event was accidental. There was a program that came out of this bad experience so that this kind of situation would become lesser and occur much less often. The impact would then be felt by less people which would make the program successful and would support a restorative solution.

The first man was subjected to racial profiling and unnecessary use of force for simply asking for clarification on my they were being pulled over.
The second woman was probably subjected to racial profiling as well. She had received so many fines for minor things that she couldn't pay that she was arrested for that.
The third man had grown up with friends that enjoyed participating in deviant behavior. He could not afford to fight the charges so he ended up with a lot of legal trouble as well. He did not have a high school education because he was expelled from high school. He then resorted to selling drugs because he felt he had to to survive.
If these people had better opportunity for education and jobs their situations might be different.
The 4th man went to jail for 90 days and because he was then labeled a felon he then had a tough time with reentering society because he was now a felon. Because of this title he now has a lot harder time finding a job and other simple things.

Demetrius is also part of Life Course View by hanging out with the bad kids of the neighborhood. Demetrius also went through life changing influences such as being in an abusive household and having to go another home. The mom of the daughters kept violating traffic laws because she had to get to her job to support her family. I am not quite sure what the others fall under. Issac fell into drugs and then stole to be able to afford drugs after his felony charge.
