If this proves successful, then 5 year- olds in the territory could go to school all day instead of for a half a day. This impacts the pressure on ECE centres to take children for half days, and helps parents with daycare. The children however benefit most with access to learning in a school setting and social opportunities with peers!

It says that it’ll span over the next 4 years, so by 2026 there should be 238 new spaces across Nunavut. This impacts ECE because we don’t have enough educators, lots of untrained staff. I think when we get more educators it would be a great idea to open new centres.

Akeeagok and Education Minister Pamela Gross, changing the childcare rate down to $10 a day per child. I feel it would help families out, instead of paying so much for daycare. I know back when my girls were in daycare I was paying like $300-400 every two weeks for them to be in daycare. Now with this $10 per day per child, sure makes a difference, especially being a single parent with the only income in the household. I hope other families seen this change and put their children in daycares. It makes a big difference, makes it a bit more easy to go out and find jobs having your child in daycare. It makes it a bit more affordable with other bills that need to be paid, and to buy a bit more food. I can’t thank them enough for making this change happen, sure helps a lot and goes a long way.

Hiring qualified ECEs is a challenge for many reasons, including access to training language requirements and low wages. It contributes to the literature by highlighting the features of a effective training model rooted in Inuit values that has been enforced of an evidence-based training programs

Now the YWCA just has to secure funding to make this project a reality. The organization has requested funding from the department of education, culture, & employment (ECE) this will affect the ECE financially as the organization is requesting $4M dollars to develop the infrastructure. All party’s agree the work and substantial cost will be well worth it as when it is completed the facility will have room for 56 children, bringing love care and stable early childhood education for generations to come.
