Empowerment can be defined in many ways, however, when talking about women's empowerment, empowerment means accepting and allowing people (women) who are on the outside of the decision-making process into it. Many people think that the days of woman fighting for rights are over but those people are wrong because 1 out of every 3 woman has been sexually harassed or catcalled in public by random men they don’t know. Every day women are put down and told how to act and that they were asking for it if you wear that making woman feel that it is their fault, it is not. Nearly 60 per cent of women work in the informal economy, which puts them at greater risk of falling into poverty. 
Empowering them will help fix a community as they are the backbone of society. Un gave a response to help development with the severe impact of covid 19 towards women is based on ;

  1. Gender-based violence, including domestic violence, is mitigated and reduced
  2. Social protection and economic stimulus packages serve women and girls
  3. People support and practise equal sharing of care work
  4. Women and girls lead and participate in COVID-19 response planning and decision-making
  5. Data and coordination mechanisms include gender perspectives.
The fifth  ssg goal is gender equality. Helping to increase women in number in unrepresented  areas . 
UNESCO chair also has a campaign on women empowerment and sustainable development , it aimed at inspiring women to take part in a more  diverse job opportunities as those unrepresented fields need a new gender field.

In this way, this "value" has been internalized in them and are only enforced through cultural effect on the media. 

Although in recent times, the media offers many situations that contradicts this internalized value. Therefore, there have been several cases of women rising in power and then girls are inspired to break out of this stereotype. However it can be often be difficult because of societal expectations and previous years of under-representing women in the media.

In the case of developing countries,  these women take up the role of the homemaker and are often not exposed to any differing viewpoints from the media. Thus, they don't often see how limited they are when their husband, who is the breadwinner, goes to work.

Women’s equality and empowerment is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, but also integral to all dimensions of inclusive and sustainable development. In short, all the SDGs depend on the achievement of Goal 5.

SDG 5 Targets
  •  End all forms of discrimination against all women and girls everywhere.
  • Eliminate all forms of violence against all women and girls in the public and private spheres, including trafficking and sexual and other types of exploitation.
  • Eliminate all harmful practices, such as child, early and forced marriage and female genital mutilation.
  • Recognize and value unpaid care and domestic work through the provision of public services, infrastructure and social protection policies and the promotion of shared responsibility within the household and the family as nationally appropriate.
  • Ensure women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decisionmaking in political, economic and public life.
  • Ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights as agreed in accordance with the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development and the Beijing Platform for Action and the outcome documents of their review conferences.
  • Undertake reforms to give women equal rights to economic resources, as well as access to ownership and control over land and other forms of property, financial services, inheritance and natural resources, in accordance with national laws.
  • Enhance the use of enabling technology, in particular information and communications technology, to promote the empowerment of women.
  • Adopt and strengthen sound policies and enforceable legislation for the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls at all levels.
