  • Cornea: protective outermost layer, 80% of focusing 
  • Iris: color muscle of eye
  • pupil: hole that expands and contracts to let light in. 
  • Lens: A flexible piece of tissue, located behind the pupil that focuses light on the retina.
  • Vitreous humor:  fluid in eye, reflects images back to retina --> upside down 
  • Retina: thin layer of tissue on back of each eye; contains receptor cells 
    • Fovea: The portion of the retina directly behind the pupil. It contains a large concentration of cones and no rods.
    • Optic nerve: where messages leave the eye and enter the brain, connect to the optic chiasm. 
    • blind spot: spot on retina with no photoreceptors
