Fiction book & it's ties to abortion.

In the book "Unwind" by Neal Shusterman, the views on abortion were made very clear from the beginning. In this messed up dystopian society the book is based in, abortion is 100% illegal. Not only is it illegal, but they made an alternative way of getting rid of the baby that you want to abort. It's called storking, and what that is is going to somebodies porch step and leaving your child there for somebody else to deal with. If you happen to catch the person in the act of placing their child on your porch, they either choose to keep the baby or not. In most cases, of course, they don't want to keep the child as it is not theirs, nor were they prepared to have a child. In the book, main character Connor Lassiter saw a stork on an unknown families porch. Connor felt sympathy for the stork as he's had them at his porch step before, so he ran to the child. As he was about to get in trouble by the family that had been storked, Risa Ward, another main character who was going on this journey with Connor, stepped in and took the blame for "leaving the baby on their porch," which meant they had to keep the child. This greatly impacted their journey as the baby slowed them down tremendously. Not to mention it took their focus off of their main problem, which was trying to help their captive, Levi Calder.

On page 9 of Abortion by Hal Marcovitz, it states that for nearly 3 quarters of the 2000's, abortion was illegal almost everywhere in the U.S. Even so, it goes onto say on pages 9-10, women still illegally got abortions. Though, an alarming amount of women were dying from illegal abortions done wrong, so people began to stand up for the legalization of abortions on all women. In 1973, the supreme court made abortion legal for all women and all reasons. On page 45, it talks about how religion plays into beliefs and opinions on abortion. An example given was the Catholic Church, which is against abortion. Religions like Judaism and Islam let you decide what's best for you. on page 48, it shows that though members of the catholic religion don't normally agree with abortion, some do indeed stand up for the cause. Francis Kissling, aka the president of Catholics for a Free Choice, thinks there should be room in the religion for people who are for pro-life. In the section "How Abortion Influences American Politics" (pages 55-70,) it shows that abortion has somethings to do with many of the presidential elections, such as Reagan and Bush, etc.
