Little Ash, a demon, and his friend, Uriel, an angel, have been living in a tiny Jewish shtetl in Europe for hundreds of years. When a young girl from their village leaves for America and seems to go missing, they set off to New York in search of her. Along their journey they meet a great cast of characters including ghosts, dybbuks, and people with bad intentions. Schmidt https://padlet.com/DHMSLibrary/DHMSsummerreading2023/wish/2640627451 Hercules Beal may share the same name as the hero from mythology but he has nothing in common with his namesake. He's even the smallest kid in his 7th grade class. He and his older brother, Achilles, are reeling from the loss of their parents in an accident and trying to make do running the family business on Cape Code. 

To add insult to injury, Hercules has to attend a new school in the fall with all new kids and teachers. When a teacher gives him the assignment of duplicating the 12 labors of Hercules (the mythological one), he's skeptical. After all, there are no Nemean Lions or Hydras on Cape Cod.

And while there are no mythological creatures to tame on the coast of Cape Cod, there no shortage of challenges for Hercules, who has to slay dragons of a different kind. And like the mythological Hercules, he finds that he can't go it alone and it's okay to accept help and support of family, friends, and community.
